(Transcribed by Joan S Dunn) Deed Book 1 A Page 13 & 14 Shadrack Stallings To William Wells Deed of 50 acres of lands This indenture made this twentieth day of July in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and eighty four and in the ninth year of Independence between Shadrack Stallings of the County of Duplin and State of North Carolina of the one part and William Wells of the same County and State aforesaid of the other part, witnesseth that the said Shadrack Stallings for divers good causes and considerations him thereunto moving, but more especiallly for and in consideration of the sum of twenty pound specie to him in hand paid or secured to be paid before the sealing and delivery hereof, the receipt whereof he doth acknowledge and himself therewith to be fully satisfied & content and thereof and therefrom doth hereby acquit the aforesaid William Wells his heirs, executors, administrators and assigns hath bargained sold enfoosed conveyed & confirmed and hath by these presents for himself his heirs executors & administrators hath and doth fully freely and absolutely bargain sell enfoos convey and forever confirm unto the said William Wells his heirs and assigns one certain tract or parcel of land containing by estimation fifty acres , lying and being in the County of Duplin on the east side of Bens Creek a Branch of Rockfish Creek and on both sides of Reedy Branch beginning at a whie oak on hte lower edge of the branch Jacob Wells's line; Thence East 90 poles to a pine; thence North ninety poles to a gum bush in a gully thence West ninety poles to a large pine by Jacob Wells's line; thence South to the beginning to have and to hold the said fifty acres of land and premises with the appurtenances to the said William Wells his heirs and assigns forever in as full and ample manner to all intents and purposes as he the said Shadrack Stallings did might or could have held the same before the making hereof, and the said Shadrack Stallings doth hereby promise and engage for himself his heirs executors and administrators that at the time of sealing and delivery hereof the said Shadrack Stallings is and stands seiged of the said land and premises of an indefeasable estate of inheritance in fee simple and hath in himself good and rightful power and lawful authority to grant bargain sell convey and forever confirm the said land and premises and every part & parcel thereof with their and every of their appurtenances unto the said William Wells his heirs and assigns and that from time to time and at all times forever hereafter said William Wells his heirs and assigns by prower and virtue hereof may and shall enter into have and hold use possess and forever enjoy the said fifty acres of land free and clear and freely and clearly acquitted discharged saved kept harmless & indemnifyed of and from all former or other gifts grants bargains sells enfeossments wills intails jointure dowers executors extents and incumbrances whatsoever the quit rents which shall hereafter become annually due only except moreover the said Shadrack Stallings doth for himself his heirs executors and administrators do promise and engage that at any time at the reasonable request of him the said William his heirs or assigns or at his or their cost & charges in the law make or cause to be made & duly executed any further or other deed or instrument of wrighting for the same making a title of the said land and premises to him the said William Wells his heirs and assigns forever as he the said William Wells his heirs or assigns or his or their counsels learned in the law shall advise devise or require & furthermore the said Shadrack Stallings doth covenant and agree for himself his heirs executors and administrators to and with the said William Wells his heirs & assigns to warrant and forever deferred the title of the said fifty acres of land to him the Wm. Wells his heirs and assigns free from the lawful claim of him the Shadrack Stallings his heirs executors or administrators or any other person or persons whatsoever. In witness whereof the said Shadrack Stallings hath hereunto set his hand and seal the day and year first above written. Shadrack Stallings Signed sealed and delivered in presents and in presence of us William Goff Edward Dickson State of North Carolina Duplin County, July Court 1784.
