(Transcribed by Joan S Dunn) Deed Book 1 A Page 552, 553, & 554 Shadrack Stallings To John Williams Deed for lands This indenture made the 12th year of our Independence, this thirteenth day of January in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred & eighty eight. Between Shadrack Stallings of the one part & John Williams of the other part, witnesseth, that for and in consideration of the sum of twenty pounds to the said Shadrack Stallngs in hand paid by John Williams at or before the sealing & delivery of these presents, the receipt whereof he doth hereby acknowledge, & therefore doth release acquit & discharge the said John Williams executors & administrators by these presents he the said Shadrack Stallings granted bargained sold aliened & confirmed & by these presents doth grant sell alien & confirm unto the said John Williams & his heirs a certain piece or parcel of land situate lying & being in the County of Duplin & province of North Carolina bounded as followth on the north side of Rockfish Creek. Begining at a large pine on an old line said to be Pitman's line, thence along said line No. 82 Wt. 246 poles to a pine on an old corner, thence No. 27 Wt. 200 poles to a line, thence Et. 230 poles a stake, thence joining & old survey of 640 acres patent by John Pidcock called Porter's land, to the first station & all houses buildings orchards ways waters & water courses, profits commodities hereditaments & appurtenances whatsoever to the said premises hereof granted or any part thereof belonging or in any wise appertaining & the reversion & reversions remainder & remainders rents issues & profits thereof & also all the estate right title interest use trust property claim & demand whatsoever of him the said Shadrack Stallings in & to the said premises & all deeds evidences & writings touching or in any wise concerning the same. To have & to hold the lands hereby conveyed & all and singular other the premises hereby bargained & sold & every part and parcel thereof with their & every of their appurtenances unto the said John Williams his heirs forever, to the only proper use and behoof of him the said John Williams & of his heirs & assigns forever & the said Shadrack Stallings his heirs executors & adms. doth covenant promise & grant to & with the said John William heirs & assigns by these presents, that he the said Stallings now at the time of sealing & delivering these presents is seized of a good sure and undefeazable estate of inheritance in fee simple of and in the premises hereby bargained & sold & that he has good power & lawfull & absolute authority to grant & convey the same to the said John Williams in manner aforesaid & that the said premises now are & so forever hereafter shall remain & be free & clear off & from all former gifts grants bargains sales dower right & title of dower, judgments executions titles troubles charges & incumbrances whatsoever made done committed or suffered by the said Shadrack Stallings or any other person or persons whatever, the quit rent hereafter to grow due & payable to John Williams's heirs & sussessors for and in respects of the premises only excepted & fore prized & that the said S. Stallings & his heirs all & singular the premises hereby bargained & sold with the appurtenenaces unto the said John Williams heirs and assigns against him the said Stallings & his heirs & all & every person & persons whatsoever, shall warrant & forever defend by these presents. In witness whereof the said Shadrack Stallings hath hereunto set his hand & seal the day & year first above written.
