(Transcribed by Joan S Dunn) Deed Book 1 A Page 467, 468, & 469 Samuel West To Elias James Deed for 200 acres lands To all to whom these presents shall come greeting. Know ye that I Samuel West of Duplin County & State of No. Carolina plantor, for and in consideration of five hundred pounds lawfull money of the State to me in hand paid before the sealing & delivering of these presents by Elias James of the State & County aforesaid planter, the receipt whereof I do hereby acknowledge & confess myself therewith fully satisfied contented & paid & of every part and parcel thereof do exonerate acquit & discharge the said Elias James his heirs executors & administrators and assigns forever, and by these presents have given granted bargained sold aliend conveyed and confirmed & by these presents do freely & absolutely give grant bargain sell alien convey & confirm unto the said Elias James his heirs & assigns forever, a certain messuage or tract of land situate lying & being in the County of Duplin & Sampson on the north side of the main branch of Rockfish & Calips meadows. Begining at a pine runing thence No. 56 Wt. 180 poles to a pine, thence SO. 34 Wt. 180 poles to a pine, thence SO. 54 Et. 180 poles to a pine by a Savannah, & thence to the first station, which was originally granted by patent to William Knowles, & by the decease of the said William Knowles fell by heirship to his Brother John Knowles & sold by the said John Knowles to Clifton Bowen & from Clifton Bowen to Samuel West and from Samuel West to Elias James containing two hundred acres of land as by patent granted to William Knowles as by recored more fully may apper. To have and to hold the said granted and bargainde premises with all the appurtenances previledges & commodities to the same belonging or in any wise appertaining to hinm the said Elias James his heirs & assigns forever, to his or theirs proper use benefit & behoof forever, & I the said Sameul West for myself my heirs executors & administrators do covenant promise and grant to and with the said Elias James his heirs & assigns that before the ensealing hereof I am the true sole & lawfull heir & owner of the above bargained premises & am lawfully seized & possessed of the same as my own proper right as a good perfect & absolute estate of inheritance & have in myself good right full and lawfull authority to grant bargain sell and convey & confirm in manner as above, and that the above said Elias James his heirs & assigns shall and may from time to time & at all times hereafter by virtue of these presents lawfully & peacebly & quietly have hold occupie possess & enjoy the premises with the appurtenances free & clear acquit exonerate & discharge of & from all & all manner of former gifts grants bargains mortgages wills intails jointures dowries judgments executions incumbrances & troubles whatsoever, the said Elias James his heirs and assigns paying the yearly quit rents due for the said & the said Samuel West do further covenant & bind myself my heirs executors administrators firmly & by these presents to warrant & defend the said Elias James his heirs & assigns in quiet & peacebly possession of all and singular the said premises granted against my just and lawfull claim of any person or persons whatsoever and I the said Samuel West as bind and oblige myself my heirs & at any time or times hereafter to give and pass such ample and other assurance & confirmation of the sait premises unto the said Elias James his heirs and assigns forever his or their council learned in the law shall require by virtue of their presence. In witness whereof the said Samuel West have hereunto set my hand & seal this eighteenth day of July one thousand seven hundred & eighty seven. Samuel West Signed sealed & delivered in the presence of us Charles James Stephen Smyth State of No. Carolina Duplin County October Term 1787.
