(Transcribed by Joan S Dunn) Deed Book 1 A Page 87 & 88 Samuel Ward To William Harris Harnes Deed for 200 acres lands This indenture made this twentieth day of October 1784, between Samuel Ward of Duplin County and State aforesaid of the one part, and William Harris Harmes of the County and province aforesaid of the one part, witnesseth, that the said Samuel Ward for & in consideration of the sum of twenty pound specie money to him in hand paid by the said William Harris Harmes receipt whereof he doth hereby acknowledge hath granted bargained sold alined released and confirmed, and by these presents for himself his his heirs and assigns a certain tract of land containing two hundred acres be the same more or less, lying and being in Duplin County in the State aforesaid and on the No. East swamp joining William Duncan's and Reuben Jonson's line. Begining at a pine on Reuben Jonson's corner, thence So. 100 to a pine his other corner thence So. 40 Et. 60 pole to a water oak, thence up the No. East swamp joining Duncan's line So. 30 Wt. 60 pole to a water oak, thence So. 75 Wt. 140 pole to a red oak and white oak by Draper's line, thence No. to a Black Jack concluded upon by William Harris Harne's & Reuben Johnston, from thence a direct line to the begining, together with all houses gardens fences woods underwoods water & water courses thereon, standing growing and being, with all profits commodities advantages and appertenances whatsoever to the same belonging or in any wise appertaining and also the reversion & reversions remainder and remainders thereof and of every part & parcel thereof. To have and to hold the said 200 acrs of land ( or above bounded) with their and every of their appertenances, unto the said William Harris Harnes his heirs and assigns to their only use & behoof of the said William Harris Harnes his heirs & assigns forever, and he the said Samuel Ward for himself and his heirs doth covenant grant and agree to and with the said William Harris Harnes his heirs and assigns, that he and they shall and may at all times hereafter peacibly and quietly hold and enjoy the said granted land and premises free and clear from all former sales gifts grants mortgages rights of dower or any other incumbrances whatsoever, and he the said Samuel Ward and his heirs shall & will warrant and forever defend the said granted land and premises with the appertenances to the said William Harris Hanes his heirs and assigns, against all and every other person or persons that shall lay any claim thereunto, by or under him. In witness whereof he has hereunto set his hand and seale the day and year above written. Samuel Ward Signed sealed and delivered in presence of us John Bradley Handy Reaves State of No. Carolina, Duplin County, October Court 1784.
