Samuel Ward To Reuben Johnston
Deed for 100 acres lands
This indenture made the nineteenth day of October and in the eighth year of American
Independance, and in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred & eighty four, between
Samuel Ward of County of Duplin in the State of No. Carolina planter of the one part, and
Reuben Johnston of the same place of one the other part, witnesseth, that the same Samuel Ward
for and in consideration of the sum of fifty five pounds specie to him on hand well & truly
paid by the said Teuben Johnston, the receipt whereof he doth hereby acknowledge and himself
therewith to be fully satisfied and contented and paid and of every part & parcel thereof doth
exonerate requit and discharge, the said Reuben Johnston his heirs executors & administrators
by these presents, he the said Samuel Ward hath given granted bargained sold alined and
confirmed, and by these presents doth give grant bargain sell and confirm unto the said Reuben
Johnston and his heirs a certain piece or parcel of land situate lying & being in the County
of Duplin aforesaid in the forks between the No. East swamp and the Calf Pasture branch and is
bounded as follows to wit. Begining at an Elm by the run of the Calf Pasture branch at Reuben
Johnston's line and runs So. 8- Wt. 100 pole to a pine Johnstons corner thence So. 110 pole to
a pine his other corner, thence Wt. 60 pole to a stake & a pine, thence No. 190 pole to a stake
at the run of the Calf Pasture branch, thence down the branch as it meanders to the begining,
and containing by extimation one hundred acres of land be the same more or less it being part
of a patent of three hundred acres of land which was granted to the said Samuel Ward by patent
bearing date the 29th day of October Anno Domini 1782 reference being therunto had may more
fully appear. To have and to hold the said one hundred acres of land, together with all houses
buildings ways waters water courses profits comonodites heriditaments & appertenances whatsoever
to the said premises hereby granted or any part thereof belonging or in any wise appertaining
& the reversion & reversions, remainder & remainders, rents issues & profits thereof and also
all the estate right title interest trust property claim & demand whatwoever of him the said
Samuel Ward in & to the said premises and the said Samuel Ward for himself his heirs executors
& administrators doth covenant promise & grant to & with the said Reuben Johnston his heirs &
assigns by these presents, that he the said Reuben Johnston his heirs executors administrators
& assigns shall & may from time to time and at all times forever hereafter by force and virtue
of these presents lawfully peacebly & quietly have hold use occupy possess and enjoy the said
granted and bargained premises with the appertenances therunto belonging as a good perfect and
absolute estate of inheritance in fee simple & that free and clear freely and clearly acquitted
and discharged off & from all and all manner of incumbrances whatsoever except the yearly taxes
theron hereafter becoming due and payable to the state and further he the said Samuel Ward doth
hereby covenant & engage for himself his heirs executors & administrators to warrant secure and
defend the said Reuben Johnston his heirs executors and administrators & assigns in the quiet &
peaceble possession of the said hereby granted on hundred acres of land and premises from &
against him the said Samuel Ward his heirs executors and administrators and from & against the
just and lawful claim & demand of all and every other person or persons whatsoever claiming any
july right title interest or property of in and to the same or any part or parcel thereof. In
witness whereof the said Samuel Ward hath hereunto set his hand and seal the day & date first
above written.
