Samuel Stanford to James Middleton
Deed for 61 acres July 1839
This Indenture made the ----day of----in the year of our Lord one Thousand Eight hundred
thirty five between Samuel Stanford of the County of Duplin and State of North Carolina
of the one part and James Middleton of the County & State aforesaid of the other part
witnesseth that for and inconsideration of the sum of ninty one dollars & fifty cents
in hand paid to the said Samuel Stanford by the said James Middleton before the sealing
and delivering of these presents the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged the said
Samuel Stanford have bargained sold and delivered and by these doth bargain sell deliver
set over confirm and forever convey unto the said James Middleton a certain tract or
parcil of Land situate lying & being in the County of Duplin and on the south side of
the Grove Swamp and between Fayette Road and Elizabith Road and Bounded as follows Begining
at a stake on the Elizabeth Road and runs thence with said Road so 65 wt 30 poles to a
stake thence No 77 wt 54 poles to a pine thence so 76 wt 50 poles to a pine thence so 12
poles to a pine thence west 32 poles to a small sweet gum in a small Branch thence as the
meanders of said Branch nearly NOrth 78 west 54 poles to a pine thence No 20 wt 28 poles
to a stake thence No 70 Et. 100 poles to a pine on the side of Fayetteville Road thence
with said Road No 84 Et. 40 poles to a stake thence the Road So 68 Et. 54 poles to a stake
thence with said Road No 72 Et. 24 poles to a stake thence the Road North 55 Et 17 poles to
a stake on Furlows line thence with said Furlows line so 3 Et 40 poles to the begining
containing by estimation sixty one acres be the same more or less to have and to hold the
aforesaid land and premises to gether with all the appurtenances thereunto belonging to him
the said James Middleton his heirs administrators Executors & assigns forever and the said
Samuel Stanford do hereby warrant & forever defend the above lands and premises free from
him his Heirs Administrators Executors and assigns and from the Lawfull claim or claims of
any person or persons and from any incumbrances whatsoever unto him the said James Middleton
His Hires and assigns forever to their own proper use and behuff in fee simple in witness
whereof I have hereunto set my name and affixed my seal the day & date abbov written
