Samuel Smith To Benjamin Johnston
Bill of Sale
Know all men by these presents that I Samuel Smith of the County of Duplin and State of North Carolina
have granted, Bargained and sold and do by these presents give, Grant, bargain and sell unto Benjamin Johnston
of the County and State aforesaid a certain negroe woman named Benenah for and in Consideration of the sum of
sixty pounds to me in hand paid the Receipt whereof of which I do hereby acknowledge which said negroe woman
Benenah I do promise to warrant and forever Defend to the said Benjamin Johnston his heirs Executors against
the Lawfull Claim of any person or persons whatsoever. Provided never the less and it is the Intention of the
above bargain and sale that if the above bounded Samuel Smith shall will and truly pay unto the above Benjamin
Johnston his heirs or assigns at or before the first day of December next the full and Just sum of sixty pounds
specie then the above bargain and sale to be voided and of none effect, otherwise to remain in full force and
virtue in Law given under my hand and seal this thirteenth day of May 1791.
