(Transcribed by Joan S Dunn) Deed Book 1 A Page 24 & 25 Samuel Howard to Shad'k Stallings Deed of 100 acres of lands This indenture made the seventeenth day of January in the seventh year of American Independence and in the year of ou Lord Christ one thousand seven hundred & eighty three between Shadrick Stallings of the State of North Carolina and County of Duplin of the one part and Samuel Howard of the same place of the other part, Witnesseth that the said Samuel Howard for diverse food causes and consideration him thereunto moving, but more expecially for the valuable consideration of the sum of forty pounds specie to him in hand well and truly paid or secured to be paid by Shadrick Stallings aforesaid before the insealing and delivery of these presents the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, jath by these presents given granted bargained sold assigned and set over to the said Shadrick Stallings one certain tract or parcel of land situate lying and being in Duplin County aforesaid on the South side of Maxwells swamp and on both sides of Parsons Branch. Beginning at a small pine at a large fallen down white oak David Sloan's lower station tree on the So. edge of said Parsons Branch; thence said Sloan's line South 10 West 46 poles to a pine his corner; thence East 102 poles to a pine, thence North crossing the branch 90 poles to a pine, thence West 194 poles to a gum in a Branch, thence to the beginning, containing in the whole one hundred acres be the same more or less, being the contents of a patent granted to the said Shadrick Stallings. To have and to hold the said bargained land and premises with all the appurtenances to the same belonging or in any wise appertaining of every nature or kind whatever to him the said Shadrick Stallings his heirs & assigns forever free from all former gifts grants mortgages intails dowers, jointres, wills, executions extent or troulbes whatever given granted of done by him the said Saml. Howard or any other person or persons by from or under him and the said Shadrick Stallings the aforesaid land and premises shall and may have hold use occupy enjoy and possess as his own free and lawful inheritance in as full and ample a manner as the said Samuel Howard by his deed from the said Shadrick Stallings might or could have enjoyed and the said Sam. Howard & the said land and premises to him the said Shadrick Stallings shall and will warrant and forever defend against him his heirs and assigns forever. In witness whereof the said Samuel Howard hath hereunto set his hand and seal the date above written. Samuel Howard Signed sealed and delivered in the presents of us Joseph Dickson Jane Dickson State of North Carolina, Duplin County, July Court 1784.
