(Transcribed by Joan S Dunn) Deed Book 1 A Page 350, & 351 Robert Merrit To David Davis Deed for 200 acres lands This indenture made the eleventh day of November in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred & eighty six & in the eleventh year of American Independence, Between Robert Merrit of the State of North Carolina & County of Sampson of the one part & David Davis of the County of Duplin of the other part. Witnesseth that the said Robert Merrit for divers good causes & considerations him thereunto moving, but more especially for the valluable consideration of the sum of twenty three pounds specie of the State aforesaid to him in hand well and truly paid by David Davis aforesaid before the ensealing & delivering of these presents, the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, hath by these presents given granted bargained sole assigned & set over to the said David Davis his heirs & assigns forever all that tract or parcel of land sittuate lying & being in Duplin County aforesaid, on both sides of Rockfish Creek. Begining at a pine David Davis's corner South side the creek by a little branch, thence Davis's line crossing the branch No. 50 Et. 50 pole to a water oak & gum his corner by the swamp, thence through the creek No. 50 Et. 80 pole to a lower wood by John Willson's corner, thence to & with his line No. 60 Wt. 140 poles to a water oak by the creek, thence crossing the creek along Meridith's line So. 35 Wt. 118 poles to a pine the corner, thence the other line No. 55 Wt. 56 pole to a pine and black jack, thence So. 35 Wt. 82 poles to a pine by a pocoson, thence So. 40 Et. 142 pole to a pine on Joseph Williams line, thence his line to the first station, containing in the whold two hundred acres be the same more or less. To have and to hold the aforesaid land and premises with all the appurtenances to the same belonginig or in any wise appurtaining of every nature or kind whatever, free from all former gifts grants mortgages intails wills executions entents or troubles whatever committed or done by him the said Robert Merrit or any other person or persons whatever by from or under him or them or any of them & the said David Davis the aforesaid land & premises shall tnd may have hold use occupie enjoy and possess as his own free and lawfull inheritance, free from all incumbrance whatever & the said Robert Merrit the aforesaid land & premises to him the said David Davis shall and will warrant & forever defind from and against him the said Robert Merrit his heirs & assigns as also from & against the just & lawfull claim & demand of all & every other person or persons whatever who may hereafter lay any lawfull clame to the same. In witness whereof the said Robert Merrit hath hereunto set his hand & seal the date above written. Robert Merrit Signed sealed & delivered in the presence of us James Ryan James Rawlings State of No. Carolina Duplin County Jany. Term 1787.
