(Transcribed by Joan S Dunn) Deed Book 1 A Page 465, 466, & 467 Robert Meares To Patrick Newton Deed for 148 acres lands This indenture made the 11th day of Feby. in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and eighty seven, Between Richard Mears of the State of No. Carolina & County of Duplin of the one part & Patrick Newton of the same place of the other part. Witnesseth, that the said Richard Meares for and in consideration of the sum of one hundred & eighty pounds current money of the State aforesaid to him in hand well and truly paid by the said Patrick Newton, the receipt whereof the said Richard Meares doth hereby acknowledge, & himself to be therewith fully satisfied contented and paid, & of every part and parcel thereof doth exonerate acquit and discharge the said Patrick Newton his heirs executors and administrators forever by these presents, have given granted bargained sold enfeoffed conveyed confirmed assigned & set over unto the said Patrick Newton his heirs and assigns, & by these presents the said Richard Meare for himself his heirs executors & administrators doth fully freely and absolutely give grant bargain sell enfeoffe convey confirm assign & set over unto the said Patrick Newton his heirs and assigns forever, a certain piece or parcel of land situate lying & being in the County of Duplin & State of No. Carolina aforesaid on the So. East side of Bear Swamp, between the widdow Moor's & Thomas Hill's plantation. Begining at a sweet gum on the run of Bear Swamp at the mouth of the dividing Branch, & runs up the said Branch as the run meanders So. 27 Et. 120 to a white oak in the fork of said Branch, thence up the run of the said Branch as it meanders 140 pole to a white & gum in said Branch by the upper end of the field, thence So. 48 pole to a red oak, & pine thence So. 80 Wt. 60 pole to a live oak in a pond, thence No. 40 Wt. 236 pole to a large white oak & white oak sapling & sweet gum on the run of Bear Swamp, being the dividing boundary between the said John Moore and James Mooe made in pursusance of their Fathers will and thence down the run in run of Bear Swamp as it meander to the begining, & containing in the whole by survey ninty eight acres be the same more or less, it being part of a tract of four hundred and forty acres which Henry Eustace McCulloch formerly sold & conveyed to John Moore by deed of bargain and sale bearing daed the 25th day of March in the 4th year of the reign of George the third King of Great Britain, and since by the last will & testament of the said John Moore bearing date the 14th day of July Ao. Dm. 1771, the said ninety eight acres of land was bequeathed to said John Moore it being his equal division of the land lying below the Spring Branch divided agreeable to said will between said John Moore & James Moore, reference being thereunto had may more fully appear, & also one other piece of land lying in the State of No. Carolina and County of Dupllin aforesaid on the South East side of Bare Swamp joning on the bank of the aforesaid ninety eight acres. Begining at a black gum in a Savanna & runs No. 45 Wt. 80 pole to a white oak said John Moore's own corner in the dividing branch, thence along his own line So. 48 pole to a red oak & a pine, thence So. 80 Wt. 60 pole to a live oak in a pond, thence So. 40 Et. 120 pole to a stake on the back line, and thence along said line to the begining, & containing fifty acres be the same more or less, it being part of a patent granted to the said John Moore for 200 acres of land bearing date the 1st day of July 1779, reference being thereunto had may more fully appear. To have and to hold the lands hereby conveyed and all and singular the houses buildings improvements profits commodities benefits heriditaments advantages appurtenances whatsoever to the said premises hereby granted or any part thereof belonging or in any wise appertaining & the reversion & reversions remainder & remainders rents issues & profits thereof and allso all estate right title interest property claim & demand whatsoever of him the said Richard Mears of in and to the said premises & Richd. Meares for himself his heirs executors & administrators doth covenant promise & grant to the said Patrick Newton his heirs & assigns by these presents that he the said Richd. Meares now at the time of sealing & delivering these presents is seized of a good sure perfect & indefeasable estate of inheritance in fee simple of in and to the premises hereby bargained and sold & that he hsa good power & lawfull & absolute authority to grant and convey the same to the said Patrick Newton in manner and form aforesaid, & the said Richd. Mears doth hereby further covenant & engage to and with the said Patrick Newton to warrant to secure and forever defend the said Patricfk Newton in the quiet and peaceble possedssion of the said hereby granted & bargained land from & against the claim or claims of him the said Richard Mears his heirs executors or administrators & from and against the just and lawfull claim and demand of all and every person or persons whatsoever. claiming any title interest or property of in or to the same or any part or parcel thereof. In witness whereof the said Richd. Mears hath hereunto set his hand & seal the day & date first before written. Richd. Meares Signed sealed & delivered in presence of James Wright Austin Moore Andrew Fredrick State of No. Carolina Duplin County October Term 1787.
