Richard Williams To Sarah Batts
Bill of Sale for 2 negroes
Know all men by these presents that I Richard Williams of the State of North Carolina
and County of Duplin for Diverse good causes and considerations me thereunto moving as well
for and In Consideration of the sum of one Hundred pounds specie to me in hand well and truly
paid by Sarah Batts of the same place before the Ensealing and Delivery of these presents the
Receipt whereof I do hereby acknowledge an myself to be therewith fully satisfied contented
and paid hath by these presents given granted bargained assigned and set over to the said
Sarah Batts to the said Sarah Batts her heirs and assigns forever one negroe woman slave named
Moll and one negroe Boy Son to the said Moll named Ben Two years of age the 20th of this
Instant which said two negores Moll and Ben I do by these presents warrant and forever Defend
to her the said Sarah Batts her heirs and assigns forever from and against the Just and
Lawfull Claim of all and every person or persons whatever who may hereafter Lay any Clame to
the same. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal at Duplin this fifth day of
June Anno Domini 1789.

Then was the within bill of sale proved in open Court by the oath of Joseph Dickson and ordered
