Richard Singleton To Frederick Wells
Deed for 100 acres lands
This indenture made the sixteenth day of December in the year of our Lord one thousand
seven hundred & eighty three, between Richard Singleton of the County of Duplin and State of
No. Carolina of the one part, and Frederick Wells of the County and State aforesaid of the
other part. Witnesseth, that the said Richard Singleton for and in consideration of the sum
of fifty pounds specie to him in hand paid by the said Frederick Wells the receipt whereof the
said Richard Singleton doth hereby acknowledge and thereof doth acquit and discharge the said
Frederick Wells his heirs and assigns forever, he the said Richard Singleton hath granted
bargained & sold aliened & confirmed and by these presents doth grant bargain sell aliem &
confirm unto the said Frederick Wells his heirs and assigns forever a certain piece of land
lying and being in Duplin County and Branch of Rockfish Creek called the North Branch. Begining
on Joseph Williams's line at the run in the head of the Mill pond, thence Wt. along his line
past the corner, thence So. 85 Wt. to a pine at Joseph James's line, thence No. 5 Wt. to a water
oak at the run of Bair Branch, thence down the run of said branch to the mouth of said branch,
thence down the North Branch with the run to the first station containing in the whole one
hundred acres, togeather with all and singular the woods underwoods profits commodities emoluments
& heriditaments whatsoever to the said premises belonging & also all the right title interest
claim and demands of him the said Richard Singleton of in and to the said premises & every part
thereof. To have and to hold the said premises unto the said Frederick Wells his heirs and
assigns forever, and the said Richard Singleton for himself his heirs and assigns do hereby
warrent & defend the above bargained premises unto the said Frederick Wells his heirs and assigns
forever against, the lawfull clame or claims of any person or persons claiming by from or under
me my heirs or any other person or persons whatsoever. In witness whereof I have hereunto set
my hand and seal this 16th day of December one thousand seven hundred and eighty three.
