Richard Blackledge To Thomas Gray
Bill of sale for 5 negroes
Know all men by these presents that I Richard Blackledge of the County of Beaufort,
merchant, for and in consideration of one thousand & twenty five milled dollars to me in
hand paid by Thomas Gray Esqr. of the County of Sampson in the State of No. Carolina, the
receipt whereof I do hereby acknowledge, have bargained & sold & delivered, and by these
presents according to the due form of law do bargain sell and deliver unto the said Thomas
Gray a negro Boy names Ben aged about fifteen years, a negro man Darry aged abour thirty
six years, a negro lad Avon aged about eighteen years, two negro women Bett & Nancy each
aged abour eighteen years. To have and to hold the said bargained negroes unto the said
Thomas Gray his heirs executors administrators & assigns forever, and I the said Richard
Blackledge for myself my heirs executors admns. & assigns, the said bargained negroes unto
the said Thomas Gray his heirs exrs. administrators and assigns will warrant & forever
defend from the lawfull claim or claims of any person or persons whatsoever hereafter
claiming or in any wise pretending to hold them. In witness whereof I have hereunto set
my hand & seal at Sampson County this 5th day of November 1786.
