(Transcribed by Joan S Dunn) Deed Book 1 A Page 365, 366, & 367 Rice Mathews To Shadrack Stallings Deed for 200 acres lands This indenture made this twenty fifty day of February in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred & eighty six & in the tenth year of Independency Between Rice Mathews of the County of Duplin and State of No. Carolina of the one part and Meshack Stalling of the same State & County aforesaid of the other part. Witnesseth that the said Rice Mathews for divers good causes & considerations, but more especially for and in consideration of the sum of one hundred pounds specie to him in hand paid or secured to be paid before the sealing & delivery hereof the receipt whereof he doth hereby acknowledge and himself thereunto to be fully satisfied & contented & thereof and therefrom doth hereby acquit the aforesaid Meshack Stallings his heirs executors administrators and assigns, hath bargained sold enfeoffed conveyed & confirmed & hath by these presents for himself his heirs executors and administrators hath & doth fully freely and absolutely bargain sell enfeoffe convey & forever confirm unto the said Meshack Stallings his heris & assigns one certain tract or parcel of land containing by estimation two hundred acres, lying and being in the County of Duplin on the waters of Rockfish, west side of Fussel's creek, on both sides of Pigpen Branch. Begining at a gum in said Branch Meshack Stalling's corner, then as his line So. 88 Et. 40 pole to a stake, thence No. 16 Wt. 54 poles to a pine, Adam Platt's corner, thence No. 20 Wt. 134 poles to a pine, thence crossing the branch So. 70 Wt. 180 poles to a stake on the edge of a Branch thence So. 20 Et. 194 pole to a pine, thence No. 70 Et. 130 pole to a pine, thence Stalling's line to the begining. To have & to hold the said two hundred acres of land and premises with their appurtenances unto the said Meshack Stalling his heirs & assigns forever in as full and ample manner to all intents & purposes as he the said Rice Mathews did might or could have held the same before making hereof and the said Rice Mathews doth hereby promise and engage for himself his heirs executor & admns. that at the time of sealing & delivery hereof that he the said Rice Mathews is & stand seized of the said land and premises of an in defeasable estate of inheritance in fee simple and hath in himself good right full power & lawfull authority to grant bargain sell convey & forever confirm the said land and premises & every part and parcel thereof with their and every of their appurtenances unto the said Meshack Stallings his heirs & assigns & that from time to time and at all times hereafter her the said Meshack Stallings his heirs & assigns by power & virtue hereof may & shall enter unto have hold use possess & forever enjoy the said two hundred acres of land free and clear and freely and clearly acquitted saved kept harmless indemnified of and from all former or other gifts grants bargains enfeoffments will intales dowers executions entents & incumbrances whatsoever, the taxes which shall hereafter become due only excepted moreover the said Rice Mathews doth for himself his heirs executors & admns. do promise & engage that at any time at the reasonable request of him the said Meshack Stallings, his heirs and assigns or at his or their cost and charges in the law make or cause to be made and duly executed any further or other deed or instrument of writing for the sure making a title of the said land and premises to him the said Meshack Stallings his heirs and assigns forever, as he the said Meshack Stallings his heirs or assigns or his or their councils learned in the law shall advise devize or require, and furthermore the said Rice Mathews doth hereby covenant and agree for himself his heirs executors & administrators to and with the said Meshack Stallings his heirs and assigns to warrant & forever defend the title of said land to him the said Meshack Stallings his heirs or assigns, free from the lawfull claim of him the said Rice Mathews his heirs executors or administrators or any other person or person whatsoever. In witness whereof the said Rice Mathews hath hereunto set his hand and seal the day and year first above written. Rice Mathews Signed sealed & delivered in the presence of Jacob Wells William Wells State of No. Carolina Duplin County April Term 1787.
