(Transcribed by Joan S Dunn) Deed Book 12 Page 6, 7, & 8 Report of the commissioners to divide the Land of Routledge Returned to Jany term 1839 State of North Carolina Duplin County to the worshipful the justices of the court of pleas and Quarter Sessions of the County of Duplin-- We James Carrell James Williams David Southerland Joseph Stoakes and Robert Stoakes your commissioners appointed at October term AD 1838 to divide the Land of Nicholas Routeldge Ezekiel M Routledge and Edward Routledge between them and report to January term Next Have agreeable to your order not on the premises with Gibson Sloan surveyor and after being duly Sworn proceeded to value and divide the said Land as follows (to wit) Begining at an ash on the run of the Grove Swamp and runs thence South 5 Et 86 poles to a stake in the Road thence up said Road No 88 Et 61 poles to a pine at the Grave yard thence So 2 Et 16 1/2 poles to a pine thence So 81 Et 57 poles to a pine So 5 Et 120 poloes to an ash on the run of the milk Branch thence down the run of said Branch a course nearly No 75 Et 178 poles to an ash thence No 81 wt 38 poles to a black jack thence No 29 wt 152 poles to Gillespies corner on the RUn of the Grove Swamp thence up the run of the Grove to the Begining containing one hundred and Ninty eighty acres which on valued at seven hundred and Twenty Dollars We then divided the Said into three Lotts No 1st - 2- and 3. and allotted to Nicholas Routledge lot No 1 bounded as follows Begining at an ash on the Run of the Grove Swamp and runs thence South 5 Et 86 poles to a stake on the Road thence up said Road No 88 Et 61 poles to a pine at the Grave yard thence So 2 Et 16 1/2 poles to a pine thence So 81 Et 57 poles to a pine thence So 5 Et 120 poles to an ash on the run of the Mill Branch thence down said branch nearly North 75 Et 40 poles to a sweet gum thence No thence No 24 wt 120 poles to a red oak thyence No 43 Et 150 pole to the run of the Grove Swamp thence up said run the the begining containing sixty two & half acres which we valued at two hundred & forty Dollars We allotted to Ezekiel M Routledge Lot No 3 bounded as follows Begining at a stake on the Run of the Grove swamp above the road and runs so 29 Et 240 poles to a water oak on the run of the mill Branch thence down the run of said Branch Nearly North 35 Et 70 poles to an ash Gillespies corner thence No 81 wt 38 poles to a blackjack thence 29 wt 182 poles to Gillespies corner on the run of the Grove Swamp thence up said run to the begining containing sixty nine acres which we valued at two hundred & forty Dollars We allotted to Edward Routledge lot No 2 bounded as follows Begining on the run of the Grove Swamp and runs south 43 Et 150 poles to a red oak thence so 24 Et 120 poles to a sweet gum on the run of the mill branch thence North nearly 75 Et 49 poles to a water oak thence No 29 Wt 240 poles to the run of the Grove swamp thence up said run to the begining containing sity six acres which we valued at Two hundre and forty Dollars all of which is submitted to the Court under our hands & seals Novr 16th 1838 James Carrill Robert Stoakes James Williams David Southerland Joseph Stoakes State of North Carolina Duplin County Court of Please & Quarter Sessions January term 1839 The within report is returned confirmed by the court & ordered to be registered Copy N Routledge Rgr James Dickson Clk
