(Transcribed by Joan S Dunn) Deed Book 1 A Page 14 & 15 Nathaniel Merrit To Nothiel Merrit Deed of 100 acres of lands This indenture made the 9th day of August in the year of our Lord God one thousand seven hundred and eighty two by and between Nathaniel Merrit of Duplin County in the State of North Carolina of the one part and Nothiel Merrit of Duplin County in the State aforesaid of the other part, witnesseth that the said Nathaniel Merrit for and in consideration for the sum of thirteen pounds current money of this State to him in hand paid by the said Nothiel Merrit the receipt whereof the said Nathaniel Merrit doth hereby acknowledge and hath given, granted, bargained, sold, alienated released enforced and confirmed unto the said Nothiel Merrit his heirs and assigns forever one certain tract or parcel of land lying and being in Duplin County in the State aforesaid on both sides of Cliffs marsh. Begining at a pine on Jeremiah Horn's line; thence with the same South 12 West 140 poles to Horn's corner and past to a pine; thence North 12 East 140 poles to a pine; thence to the beginning, containing one hundred acres be the same more or less, together with all woods, underwoods, lower grounds marches swamps meadows waters or water courses therein contained, with all houses out houses orchards fences and all other profits rents heriditaments priviliges or appurtenances to the same belonging or in any wise appertaining to the same, to have and to hold the said land and premises with their and every of their appurtenances herein mentioned to the true intent and meaning hereof unto the said Nothiel Merrit his heirs or assigns for ever and the said Nathaniel Merrit for himself his heirs executors administratiors assigns doth covenant and agree to and with the said Nothiel Merrit his heirs or assigns that the said Nathaniel Merrit for himself his heirs or assigns aquit all right claim or interest to the above sold land and premises and shall and will forever warrant and defend the title of the above sold land and premises by these presents. In witness whereof I the said Nathaniel Merrit hath affixed my seal this day and year first above written. Nathaniel Merrit Signed sealed and delivered in presents and in presence of us William Merrit Jacob Sellers State of North Carolina Duplin County, July Court 1784.
