(Transcribed by Joan S Dunn) Deed Book 1 A Page 409, & 410 Mills Mumford To Thomas Shelton Deed for one hundred acres This indenture made the fifty day of January in the year of our Lord Christ one thousand seven hundred and eighty seven, between Mills Mumford of the County of Duplin and State of No. Carolina of the one part, and Thomas Shelton of the same County State of the other part. Witness, that the said Mills Mumford for and in consideration of the sum of sixteen pounds specie unto him in hand paid before the sealing and delivering of these presents myself fully satisfied contented and paid & of every part and parcel thereof, and I the said Mills Mumford have given granted bargained and sold & aliend and confirmed unto him the said Thomas Shelton a certain parcel of land containing one hundred acres, lying and being in the County and State aforesaid pattend by James Dobson & bearing date tenth day of November Anno Domini one thousand seven hundred and eighty four, which land the said James Dobson sold to Mills Mumford & is bounded as follows. Between the Calf Marsh and white oak, joining the said Thomas Shelton line. Begining at a pine by Shelton's line and runs with his line No. 40 Et. 160 poles to a pine, thence So. 50 Et. 100 poles to a pine, thence So. 40 Wt. 160 poles to a pine near the Calf Marsh, thence to the begining, the Thomas Shelton. To have and to hold the aforesaid bargained land and premises thereunto belonging, or in any wise appertaining, to the only use benefit and behoofe of him the said Thomas Shelton his heirs and assigns forever, free and clear from all former mortgages jointurs dowers judgments & executions & all other incumbrances of any kind whatsoever, and further I the said Mills Mumford do for myself my heirs exrs. admns. or assigns warrent and forever defend the aforesaid land unto the said Thomas Shelton his heirs and assigns forever, with all and singular appurtenances to the same belonging or in any wise appertaining, according to the true intent & meaning of these presents. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand & fixed my seal the day & date above written. Mills Mumford Signed sealed & delivered in the presence of us Lewis Barfield Anthy. Jones State of No. Carolina Duplin County July Term 1787. Then was the within deed proved in open Court by the oath of Anthony Jones & ordered to be registered. Test W. Dickson, C. C.
