(Transcribed by Joan S Dunn) Deed Book 1 A Page 201, 202, & 203 Mills Mumford To Joseph Bray Senr. Deed for 200 acres lands State of No. Carolina Duplin County. This indenture made this fourth day of March in the year of ouf Lord Christ one thousand seven hundred and eighty five, between Mills Mumford of the County of DUplin and State of No. Carolina (carpenter) of the one part, and Joseph Bray Senr. of the County and State aforesaid (sorivern) of the other part. Witnesseth, that for and in consideration of the sum of forty pounds (cash) in hand money unto the aforesaid Mills Mumford in hand paid by the aforesaid Joseph Bray Senr. before the sealing and delivery of these presents, that receipt whereof I the said Mills Mumfore doth acknowledge, hath hereby clearly acquited and discharged the said Joseph Bray Senr. his heirs executors administrators and assigns forever, he the said Mills Mumford hath given granted bargained sold aliend released conveyed & confirmed and by these presents doth give grant bargain sell alien release convey and confirm unto the aforesaid Joseph Bray Senr. a piece or parcel of land lying & being in Duplin County aforesaid containing by estimation two hundred acres being part of a tract of land of a tract of land of six hundred & forty acres by paten granted to the said Mills Mumford by his excellency Alexander Martin bearing date tenth day of November Anno Domino 1784, which said two hundred acres of land begins on Panter swamp, at the mouth of Bryan Branch an runing up Bryer Branch to a Branch between the two fields, then up the branch to the old patent line, then crossing tha old paten line to Stirrup branch, then a course down to panter swamp a corner tree, then the various courses of the swamp to the first station, which said lands is supposed to contin two hundred acres, now this indenture futher witnesseth, that should their not contain two hundred acres, in the bounds above described, then I the said Mills Mumford my heirs executors administrators and assigns will at any time hereafter at my own proper cost and charges have it run out and surveyed so as to make and fully to compleat the complement of the aforesaid two hundred acres of land, and further to make over any other warrantes deed or deeds for the better securing the said land unto him the said Joseph Bray Senr. his heirs executors administrators and assigns where thereunto required by him the said Joseph Bray Senr. his heirs or assigns. To have and to hold the said two hundred acres of land and premises to the only sole use benegit & behoofe of the said Joseph Bray Senr. his heirs and assigns forever, free and clear of all incumbrances whatsoever, and further the said Mills Mumford for himself his heirs executors administrators and assigns, doth covenant and agree that the aforesaid land and premises with all and singular the appertenances thereunto belonging, unto the said Joseph Bray Senr. his heirs executors admns. and assigns shall & will warrent and forever defend against me the said Mills Mumfore or my heirs executors admns. and assigns as also against all and every other person or persons whatsoever lawfully claiming the same. In witness whereof I the said Mills Mumfore hath hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal the day and year first above written. Mills Mumford Signed Sealed & delivered in presence of us Samuel Houston Junr. Joseph Bray Duplin County July Court 1785.
