Martin Wells To Nicholas Bryan
Deed for 2 pieces of lands
This indenture made the fifteenth of September the year of our Lord Christ one
thousand seven hundred & eighty seven, & in the tenth year of American Independence.
Between Martin Wells of the County of Duplin and State of No. Carolina of the one part
and Nicholas Bryant of the County & State aforesaid of the other part, witnesseth that
the said Martin Wells for and in consideration of the sum of fifty pounds specie currency
of North Carolina to him in hand paid the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged &
therewith fully satisfied contented & paid & of every part & parcel thereof doth exonerate
acquit & discharge the said Nicholas Bryant his heirs & assigns forever, one tract or
parcel of land situated lying & being in the County of Duplin & State of No. Carolina
aforesaid, containing by estimation one hundred & fifty acres of land be the same more
of less, lying on the west side of the No. East branch of Cape Fear River & on the south
side of Island Creek. Begining at a maple the first station of his old survey of one
hundred & sixty acres, thence the line of that survey So. 60 Et. 160 pole to a Litewood
tree his old corner, thence his other line No. 30 Et. 32 pole to a pine, thence down the
swamp So. 85 Et. 30 poles to a stake between a pine & white oak, thence along Henry Allan's
line So. 18 Wt. 80 poles to a pine, his & John Cook's corner, thence along Cook's line So.
30 Wt. 304 poles to a stake in John Parker's line, thence Parker's line No. 15 Wt. 120
poles to a pine his corner in the edge of a pond, thence his other line So. 75 Wt. 54 poles
to a pine Frederick Well's corner, thence Well's line No. 180 pole to a pine his corner,
thence on or nigh said Well's other line to the first station. To have and to hold the
said land & premises with all the appurtenances to the same belonging or in any wise
appertaining to him the said Nicholas Bryant, his heirs & assigns forever, & the said Martin
Wells the above bargained land & premises shall & will warrant & forever defend to him the
said Martin Wells his heirs and assigns as also from & against the just lawfull claim of
every other person whatsoever, who may hereafter lay any lawfull claim to the same. In
witness whereof the said Martin Wells has hereunto set his hand & seal the day & date
above written.
