Major Croom To James Gillespie
Deed for 100 acres lands
This indenture made this 12 day of October in year of our Lord one thousand
seven hundred & eighty seven, between Major Croom of the County of Dobbs & State of
North Carolina of the one part, and James Gillispie of Duplin County & State aforesaid
of the other part witnesseth that for and in consideration of the sum of one hundred
and seventy pounds by the said James Gillispie to the said Majoy Croom to him in
hand the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, he the said Major Croom hath given
granted bargained & sold & by these presents doth give grant bargain & sell unto the
said James Gillispie his heirs & assigns two certain pieces or parcels of land lying
& being in the County of Duplin on the west side of the No. East Cape Fear Between
Anthony Miller's land & a place called Clarks folly. Begining at a black gum in the
river swamp, thence runing So. 24 Et. 31 chain 64 links to a stake near Stephen Claring's
So. 66 Wt. 31 chain 64 links to a pine, No. 24 West 31 chain 64 links to pine by
Anthony Miller's line, thence to the first station containing one hundred acres, also
one other tract or parcel of land cintaining seventy two acres being part of a tract of
land granted to Michael & Robert Dickson. Begining at a water oak on the first line of
said pattent standing at the South end of the dividing line made between said Major
Croom & William Stokes & runs So. 55 Et. 100 pole to a pine the patent corner, thence
Et. 40 pole to a water oak, thence No. 160 pole to the dividing line, then with the
same So. 50 Wt. 166 pole to the begining. To have and to hold the aforesaid hundred
& seventy two acres of land with the appurtenances & all rights previledges & improvements
to the same in any wise belonging to him the said James Gillespie his heirs & assigns
forever, & the said Major Croom for himself his heirs & assigns doth covenant & agree
to & with the said James Gillespie that he the said James Gillespie his heirs & assigns
shall & may forever hereafter peacebly, & quietly have hold occupie possess & enjoy
the afore granted land & premises withouth the let or interuption of any person
whatsoever & free & clear from all and all manners of incumbrances whatsoever, & the
said Major Croom doth oblige himself his heirs executors administrators to warrant and
defend the aforesaid granted lands & premises to him the said James Gillespie his heirs
& assigns forever, against the lawfull claims of all persons whatsoever. In witness
whereof the said Major Croom have hereunto set his hand & seal the day & year first
above written.
