(Transcribed by Joan S Dunn) Deed Book 1 A Page 149, & 150 Lewis Graddy To William Whitfield Deed for 148 acres lands This indenture made this 11th day of December in the year of our Lord Christ one thousand seven hundred and eighty three between Lewis Graddy of the County of Duplin in the State of No. Carolina of the one part and William Whitfield of the County of Wayne and State aforesaid of the other part. Witnesseth, that the said Lewis Graddy for and in consideration of one hundred and sixty pounds current money to him in hand paid by the said William Whitfield at or before the ensealing & delivery of these presents, the rect. & payment whereof the said Lewis Graddy doth hereby acknowledge & of every part & parcel thereof, hath granted bargained sold aliened effeoffed released & confirmed, and by these presents doth grant bargain & sell alien enfelff release & confirm unto the said William Whitfield his heirs & assigns forever one mesuge or tract or parcel of land situate lying and being in the aforesaid County of Duplin & on the South side of the North East branch of Cape Fear & on the east side of the Beaverdam branch, containing by estimation one hundred and forty eight acres, including the plantation whereon the said Lewis Graddy liveth. Begining at a red oak on the side of the Beaverdam branch and runs So. 62 Et. 156 poles to a red oak, thence No. 32 Et. 156 poles to a pine, thence No. 62 Wt. 156 poles to a stake in the Beaverdam, thence to the begining. To have & to hold the said tract or parcel of land with all buildings houses out houses gardens orchards ways waters or water courses woods & underwoods to the same belonging or in any wise appertaining & the reversion & reversions remainder or remainders of the above mentioned tract or percel of land & of every part and parcel thereof, and all rents issues services & profits to the same belonging or appertaining and also all and every of the estate & estates rights titles claims interest and demands whatsoever of him the said Lewis Graddy into or out of the said tract or parcel of land heriditaments & premises and every part & parcel thereof to have and to hold to said tract or parcel of land and premises hereby granted bargained & sold & every part & percel thereof with theit and every of their appertanances unto the said William Whitfield junr. his heirs and assigns forever tot he only proper use behoofe of him the said William Whitfield junr. his heirs & assigns forever & the said Lewis Graddy his heirs and assigns the above mentioned tract of land with the appurtenances will forever warrent & defend from him his heirs and assigns. In witness whereof the said Lewis Graddy hath hereto set his hand & fixed his seal the day and year above written. Lewis Graddy Signed sealed & delivered in the presence of us Michael Glisson William Whitfield Joseph Whitfield State of No. Carolina, Duplin County, January Court 1785.
