Lemon Dunn To Uriah Gurganus
Deed of 170 acres of lands
This indenture made this twenty ninth dy of January one thousand seven hundrd and
eighty four, between Lemon Dunn of the County of Duplin and province of North Carolina of
the one part, and Uriah Gurganus of the County of Onslow and province aforesaid of the
other part witnesseth that said Lemon Dunn for and in consideration of the sum of one
hundred pounds specie to him in hand pain by the said Uriah Gurganus the receipt wherof
he doth hereby acknowledge hath granted, bargained, sold, aliened released and confirmed
and by these presents for himself & his heirs doth grant bargain sell alien release and
confirm unto the said Uriah Gurganus and to his heirs forever a certain tract or parcel
of land cintaining one hundred and seventy acres lying and being in the County and province
aforesaid on a branch called Maple Branch. Beginning at a maple in the side of Maple swamp
at the mouth of a small branch and runs thence South 39 East 290 poles to a pne on the side
of Maple Branch; thence down the said Maple Branch as the branch and dry coud joyne by the
following various courses viz. South 50 West 80 poles thence South 81 West 40 poles, thence
50 West 84 poles; thence North 30 West 24 poles, thence North 20 West 140 poles thence North
2 West 20 poles thence North 35 East 20 poles thence North 65 East 44 poles to the first
station together with all houses gardens fences woods underwoods waters and water courses
thereover standing growing and being with all profits commodities advantages and appertenances
whatsoever to the same belonging or in any wise appurtaining and also the reversion & reversions
remainder and remainders thereof and of every part and parcel thereof. To have and to hold the
said one hundred & seventy acres as above bounded with their and every of their appurtenances
unto the said Uriah Gurganus his heirs and assigns forever and the said Lemon Dunn for himself
his heirs doth covenant grant and agree to and with the said Uriah Gurganus his heirs and
assigns that he and they shall and may at all times hereafter peaceable and quietly hold &
enjoy the said granted lands and premises free and clear from all former seals gifts grants
mortgages rights and dowers or any other incumbrances wharsoever and he the said Lemon Dunn
his heirs shall and will warrant and forever the defend the said granted lands and premises
with the appurtenances thereunto belonging to the siad Uriah Gurganus his heirs and assigns
against all and every other person or persons whatsoever claiming by from or under him or them
or any afthern unto the said Uriah Gurganus him his heirs and assigns forever. In Witness
whereof the said Lemon Dunn hath hereunto set his hand and affixed his seal the day and year
above written.
