Deed 240 acres
This Indenture made the thirteenth day of December and in the year of our Lord
one thousand Eight hundred and Twenty seven between Joseph Rhodes of the
State of North Carolina & County of Duplin of the one part & Henry W. Houston
of the County & State aforesaid of the other part witnesseth that the said Joseph
Rhodes for divers of good cause but more especially for the valuable consideration
of six hundred and thirty six dollars in hand paid or secured to be paid by Henry
W. Houston before the ensealing of these presents the receipt whereof is hereby
acknowledged hath by these presents granted bargained and sold to the said Henry
W. Houston his heirs and assigns forever all that tract or parcel of land situate lying
& being in the County of Duplin and on the East side of the North Et River and on the
South side of the bloody Branch which land is Bounded & butted in the following
lines beginning on a stake in the run of Bloody Branch and in the main Road Henry
W. Houstons line and runs thence South 30 Et 72 poles to a stake thence No. 60
Et 81 poles to a stump thence So 39 Et 120 poles to a pine thence No. 80 Et 235
poles to a stake thence No 40 wt 110 poles to a bay in the pocoson thence No 84 wt
100 poles to a pine thence so 75 wt 64 poles to a white oak in the Branch thence
down the branch as it meanders to the beginning containing 240 acres and Quarter
be the same more or less. To have and to hold the aforesaid land and premises with
all the appurtenances thereunto belonging or in any wise appertaining to him the said
Henry W. Houston his heirs and assigns forever free from all incumbrances or any
executions whatever given granted or dower by me the said Joseph Rhodes and I the
aforesaid Joseph Rhodes the aforesaid land and premises to him the said Henry W.
Houston his heirs and assigns shall and will warrant & forever defend from and against
him the said Joseph Rhodes and also from and against the just Lawfull claim of all and
every person or persons whatever and lay any claim to the same and the said Henry W.
Houston the aforesaid land and premises shall hold and enjoy possess as his own free
and lawfull inheritance free from any incumberances In witness whereof I hereunto set my
hand and fixt my seal this day & date above written
