(Transcribed by Joan S Dunn) Deed Book 1 A Page 248, 249, & 250 Joseph Grimes To Sampson Grimes Deed for 100 acres lands To all to whome these present shall come, greeting. Know ye that I Joseph Grimes of the County & State of North Carolina, mill right, for and in consideration of the sum of four pounds specie money to me in hand paid by Sampson Grimes of the aforesaid State of No. Carolina and County of Duplin planter, the receipt whereof I do hereby acknowledge myself to be therewith fully satisfied and contented & of every part and parcel thereof do exonerate and acquit & discharge the said Sampson Grimes hs his heirs executors administrators and assigns forever, and by these presents have given granted sold and aliened & conveyed & confirmed and by these presents do fully freely and absolutely give grant bargain sell convey & confirm unto the said Sampson Grimes, he his heirs & assigns forever, one message or tract of land sittuate lying & being in the County of Duplin and State of No. Carolina above said, lying and being in and on the north side Goshen swamp. Begining at a cypress tree in Goshen Swamp at Charles Ward's line, at the path and head of the great slew, runing No. 25 Et. 36 poles to a Red Oak on Weston's line, thence No. 50 Wt. 40 pole to a white oak on Outlaw's line, thence So. 70 Wt. 42 poles to a Cypress Outlaw's corner, thence North 39 Wt. 49 poles to a stake on Sampson Grimes line, thence with his line So. 48 Wt. 152 poles to an ashe, thence No. 60 Wt. 65 poles to a gum, thence to the begining, paten bearing date the tenth day of November 1784, containing by estimation one hundred acres. To have and to hold the above bargained premises with all the appertunances and previledges thereunto belonging or in any wise appertaining to him the said Joseph Grimes his heirs & Executors administrators and assigns forever to him the said Sampson Grimes him his heirs executors administrators and assigns or eighther of them to his or their proper use benefit & behoofe forever, and I the said Joseph Grimes for me my heirs executors administrators and assigns, that before the ensealing and delivery hereof I have and am the true and sole and lawfull owner of the above bargained premises in manner, and have in myself good right and lawfull authority to convey the same in manner as above said and that the said Sampson Grimes he his heirs executors administrators and assigns shall or may from time to time and at all times forever hereafter peacebly possess and peacebly enjoy the above bargained premises with all the priviledges to the same belonging or in any wise appurtaining and do furthermore engage myself to secure & defent the same to the said Sampson Grimes against the claims or demand of any other person or personr or person whatsoever, hereafter. In witness whereof I the said Joseph Grimes have set my hand and seal this eighteenth day of January 1786.
