(Transcribed by Joan S Dunn) Deed Book 1 A Page 243, 244, 245, & 246 Joseph Dickson To Lewis Thomas Deed for 330 acres lands This indenture made the twenty seventh day of January one thousand seven hundred & eighty six, and in the tenth year of the American Independency, between Joseph Dickson of Duplin County and State of No. Carolina Esqe. of the one part, and Lewis Thomas of the County and State aforesaid planter of the other part. Witnesseth, that the said Joseph Dickson for and in consideration of the sum of sixty pounds current money to him in hand paid at the ensealing & delivery of these presents, the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged and the said Joseph Dickson he the said Lewis Thomas dothe exonerate acquit and discharge,a nd hath bargained granted and sold, and by these presents doth fully and absolutely grant bargain sell alien convey & confirm unto him the said Lewis Thomas his heirs and assigns forever, a certain tract of parcel of land lying & being in Duplin County buted and bounded as followeth. Viz. Begining at a stake in the head of a Branch or pond the last corner of Ephraim Boyel's hundred acres survey, being a prong of ashe branch, thence along said Boya's line No. 2 Et. 76 pole to a stake his corner, thence along the line formerly called Alexander Lane's but now William Kenan's No. 85 Wt. 190 poles to a small pine his corner, thence along his other line No. 10 Et. 112 poles to a hickory his corner, thence No. 40 Wt. 164 poles to a pine his corner, thence as his other line Wt. 60 poles to his corner, thence his other line So. 64 poles to a water oak sapling his old corner, thence as said line Wt. 20 poles to a water oak sapling, thence along John Goar's line So. 15 Et. 124 poles to a pine his corner thence No. 77 Et. 26 poles to a stake among three pines, thence along the line formerly called Andrew Gufford's but now John Best's No. 25 Wt. 26 poles to a black jack his corner, thence along his other line No. 65 Et. 180 poles to a pine his corner, thence along his other line So. 25 Et. 90 poles to a pine his corner, thence So. 73 Et. 162 poles to a red oak, thence to & with Arthyr Boyd's line to the begining and containing in the whole three hundred and thirty acres of land together with all houses and buildings thereon contained. To have and to hold the said land and all & singular the appurtenances profits and heriditaments with all woods all previledges belonging to him the said Lewis Thomas his heirs exrs. admin. and assigns forever, and the said Joseph Dickson doth for himself his heirs executors administrators and assigns covenant promise grant and agree to and with the said Lewis Thomas his heirs and assigns, that he the said Joseph Dickson at the time of ensealing and delivering hereof, is the true sole and lawfull owner of the said land and premises, and hath in himself good right full power and lawfull authority to grant bargain and sell the same in manner aforesaid, and that the said Lewis Thomas his heirs exer. administrators and assigns & every of them shall and may from time to time and at all times hereafter peacbly and quietly have hold use occupie possess and enjoy the said land and premises with the appertenances without any left writ trouble disturbance or interruption of him the said Joseph Dickson his heirs executors administrators or assigns or any of them or any other person or persons claiming from by or under him or them or any of them, and the said tract or parcel of land at the day hereof is and so shall remain forever continue and be unto him the said Lewis Thomas his heirs and assigns forever free and freely acquited exonerated and discharged of and from all manner of former and other gifts grants bargains sails leases wills intails rents and advantages rents quit rents widdows dowories and all other incumbrances whatsoever, and the said Joseph Dickson for himself his heirs executors and admins. doth covenant promise grant and agree to and with the said Lewis Thomas to warrant and defend the said tract or parcel of land to him the said Lewis Thomas his heirs and assigns forever in manner and form following. Viz. that he the said Joseph Dickson and his heirs shall and at the request of and at the proper cost and charges of him the said Lewis Thomas at any time or times when therunto demanded make acknowledge perform and execute or cause or sufer to be made acknowledged performed and executed all and every such act or acts deed & deeds which the said Lewis Thomas his heirs executors administrators or assigns or his or their councel learned in the law shall be advised or acquired better and further assuring and sure making and establishing the said land unto him the said Lewis Thomas his heirs executors administrators and assigns forever. In witness whereof the said Joseph Dickson hath hereunto set his hand and seal the day and year of our Lord above written.
