(Transcribed by Joan S Dunn) Deed Book 1 A Page 337, 338, & 339 Joseph Bray Senr. To John Williams Deed for 200 acres lands This indenture made this nineteenth day of September in the year of our Lord Christ one thousand seven hundred & eighty six. Between Joseph Bray senr. of the County of Duplin & State of North Carolina, jerivemn, of the one part & John William of the County & State aforesaid planter of the other part. Witnesseth that for and in consideration of the sum of forty pounds in hand paid unto the aforesaid Joseph Bray senr. by the aforesaid John Williams before the sealing & signing & delivering of these presents the receipt whereof I the said Joseph Bray Senr. doth acknowledge, hath hereby clearly acquited & discharged the said John Williams his heirs exers. adm. & assigns foreger, he the said Joseph Bray senr. hath given granted bargained sold aliened released conveyed & confirmed & by these presents doth give grant bargain sell alien releas convey & confirm to the said John Williams a piece or parcel of land lying & being in Duplin County aforesaid containing by estimation two hundred acres, being part of a tract of land of six hundred & forty acres by paten granted to Mills Mumford by his excellency Alexd. Martin bearing date the 10th day of November Anno Domini 1784, which said two hundred acres of land begins on Panter Swamp at the mouth of Brice Branch & runs up Bryer Branch between the two fields, then up the branch to the old patten line to stirrpu branch, then a course down to panter swamp a corner tree, then the various courses of the swamp to the first station, which said bounds is supposed to contain two hundred acres, now this indenture further witnesseth that should ther not contain two hundred acres in the bounds above discribed there i the said Joseph Bray senr. my heirs exrs. admin. & assigns will at any time hereafter at my own proper cost & charges have it run out and surveyed so as to make & fully compleate the compliment of the aforesaid two hundred acres of land, & further over any other warrentee deed or deeds for the better securing the said land unto him the said John Williams his heirs exrs. admrs. & assigns when thereunto required by him the said John Williams his heirs or assigns the said lands & premises Mills Mumford transferred to Joseph Bray senr. by deed & registered int eh Registers office of Duplin County, bearing date the 9th of June Anno Domini 1786, reference thereunto being had will more fully and at large appear, & now transferred by Joseph Bray senr. to John Williams. To have and to hold the said two hundred acres of land and premises to the only sole use benefit & behoofe of the said John Williams his heirs and assigns forever, free & clear of all incumbrances whatever & further the said Joseph Bray senr. for himself his heirs executors admrs. & assigns doth covenant and agree that the aforesaid land & premises with all and singular the appurtenances thereunto belonging unto the said John Williams his heirs exrs. admrs. & assigns shall and will warrant and forever defend against me the said Joseph Bray senr. or my heirs exrs. admrs. & assigns as also against all and every other person or persons whatsoever lawfully claiming the same. In witness whereof I the said Joseph Bray senr. hath hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal the day and year first above written. Joseph Bray Signed sealed acknowledged & delivered in the presence of James Pearsall Danl. Glisson State of No. Carolina Duplin County October Term 1786.
