(Transcribed by Joan S Dunn) Deed Book 1 A Page 170, & 171 Jonathan Davis To David Davis Deed for 50 acres lands This indenture made the first day of March in the eighth year of American Independence, and in the year of our Lord Christ one thousand seven hundred and eighty four, between Jonathan Davis of the State of North Carolina and County of Duplin of the one part and David Davis of the same place ot the other part. Witnessett that the said Johathan Davis for divers good causes and consideratios him thereunto moving, as also for the natural love and affection which he doth beat unto the said David Davis as a son, but more especially for the valluable consideration of the sum of twenty shillings specie to him in hand well and truly paid by David Davis aforesaid before the ensealing and delivery of these presents, the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged hath by these presents given granted bargained sold assignes and set over to the said David Davis his heirs and assigns forever, one certain tract or parcel of land situate lying and being in Duplin County aforesaid on the South side of Rockfish Creek. Begining at a water oak & gum in the swamp side, thence along an old line of marked trees So. 50 Wt. 80 pole to a pine over a small branch, thence the course of the paten So. 65 Et. 116 poles to a small pine, thence No. 25 East 82 poles to a small pine on the creek bank, thence up the creek by various xourses untill a course of South 50 Wt. strikes the begining, containing in the whole fifty acres, be the same more or less, being part of a paten of three hundred acres granted to James Cook. To have and to hold the aforesaid land and premises with all the appurtenances to the same belonging or in ay wise appertaining of every nature or kind whatever, to him the said David Davis his heirs & assigns, free from all former gifts grants mortgages will dowers, executions entents or troubles committed or done by him the said Jonathan Davis, and the said Jonathan Davis the aforesaid land and premises to him the said David Davis his heirs and assigns, shall and will warrent & forever defend from and against him the said Jonathan Davis his heirs and assigns, and the said David Davis the aforesaid land and premises, shall and may have hold use occupy and possess as his own free and lawfull inheritance in as full and ample a manner as the said Jonathan Davis by his deed might or could have enjoyed & no further. In witness whereof the said Jonathan Davis hath hereunto set his hand and seal the date above written. Jonathan Davis Signed sealed & delivered in the presence of us Joseph Dickson John Little John Blanton State of No. Carolina, Duplin County, January Court 1785.
