(Transcribed by Joan S Dunn) Deed Book 1 A Page 187, 288, & 289 John Woodward To Elisha Woodward Deed for 320 acres lands This indenture made this day of July one thousand seven hundred and eighty six, between John Woodward of the County of Duplin & State of No. Carolina of the one part & Elisha Woodward of the same County & State aforesaid of the other part witnesseth that the said John Woodward for divers good causes & consideration him thereunto moving, but more especially for and in consideration of the sum of fifty pounds specie to him in hand paid before the ensealing & delivery hereof, the receipt whereof he doth hereby acknowledge and himself therewith to be fully satisfied & content & thereof & therefrom doth hereby acquit the aforesaid Elisah Woodward his heirs executors administrators & assigns hath bargained sold enfeoffed & conveyed & confirmed & hath by these presents for himself his heirs executors & administrators hath & doth fully freely and absolutely bargain sell enfeoff & convey & forever confirm unto the said Elisha Woodward his heirs & assigns one certain tract or parcel of land containing by estimation three hundred and twenty acres lying and being in the County of Duplin and State of North Carolina on the east side of the No. East & on both sides of a prong of Muddy Creek called Stefen creek including the Pometo pond & some improvement. Begining at a white oak in the fork of Stevens creek & the Pometo pond branch, thence up & crossing the creek east 200 poles to a pine, thence No. 180 pole to a pine, thence Et. to the begining, which said three hundred & twenty acres of land as granted to John Woodward by a patent bearing date the first day of July in the third year of our Independence & in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and seventy nine, & conveyed from him the said John Woodward to Elisha Woodward. To have & to hold the said three hundred acres of land and premises with the appurtenances unto the said Elisha Woodward, his heirs & assigns forever in as full and ample a manner to all intents & purposes as he the said John Woodward did might or could have held the same before the making hereof & the said John Woodward doth hereby promise & engage for himself his heirs executors & administrators that at the time of sealing & delivery hereof, that he the said John Woodward is & stands seized of the said land and premises of an indefeazable estate of inheritance in fee simple & hath in himself good right full power and lawfull authority to grant bargain sell convey & forever confirm the said land and premises & convey part & parcel thereof with their and every of their appurtenances unto the said Elisha Woodward his heirs and assigns, and that from time to time and at all times forever hereafter he the said Elisaha Woodward his heirs and assigns by power and virtue hereof may and shall enter unto have hold use occupie possess and forever enjoy the said three hundred and twenty acres lf land free and clear & freely and clearly acquited discharged saved kept harmless and indemnified off and from all former or other gifts grant bargains sails infeoffments executions entents and incumbrances whatsoever moreover the said John Woodward doth for himself his heirs executors & administrators do promise and engage that at any time hereafter at the reasonable request of him the said Elisha Woodward his heirs or assigns or at his or their cost and charges in the law make or cause to be made and duly executed any further or other instruement of writing for the same making a good and lawfull title of the said three hundred and twenty acres of land and premises to him the said Elisha Woodward his heirs and assigns forever as he the said Elisha Woodward his heirs or assigns or his or their council learned in the law shall advise devise or require and furthermore the said John Woodward doth hereby covenant and agree for himself his heirs executors and administrators to and with the said Elisha Woodward & his heirs and assigns as to warrent and forever defend the title of the said three hundred and twenty acres of land to him the said Elisha Woodward his heirs and assigns free from the claim of him the said John Woodward his heirs executors administrators or assigns or any other person or persons whatsoever laying and lawfull claim thereunto. In witness whereof the said John Woodward hath hereunto set his hand and seal the day and year first above written. John Woodward Signed Sealed & delivered in presence of us Abraham Molten junr.
