John Whitehead To Samuel Ward Deed 23 October 1786

(Transcribed by Joan S Dunn) Deed Book 1 A Page 505, & 506 John Whitehead To Samuel Ward Deed for 500 acres lands State of North Carolina Duplin County. This indenture made this 23rd day of October 1786 Between John Whitehead of the one part & Samuel Ward of the other part & both of the County & State aforesaid, planter, Witnesseth, that the said John Whitehead hath for and in consideration of the sum of one pound good and lawfull money of the said State to him in hand paid by the said Samuel Ward, the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged by the said John Whitehead, & that he hath bargained & sold assigned & set over in plain & open marked to the said Samuel Ward to him his heirs & executors & assigns forever, one tract or parcel of land situate lying & being in the State & County aforesaid, containing five hundred acres more or less, lying & being on the South side of the No. East Swamp & South side of Poley Bridge Branch. Begining at a pine supposed to be Reuben Weston's corner by a pond thence North 250 poles to a stake on John Porter's line at Nelly Bail's corner, thence as Porter's line So. 85 Et. 94 poles to a pine his corner, thence as his other line No. 40 Et. 100 poles to a pine his corner, thence Et. 106 poles to a pine up Poley Bridge Branch So. 25 Et. 210 poles to thence So. 35 to the Wolf Scrape Branch & up the said branch to the begining. To have and to hold the said bargained land & prmises with all the improvements & appurtenances to the same belonging or in any wise appertaining to him the said Samuel Ward his heirs executors & assigns forever & the said John Whitehead the aforesaid land and premises to him the said Samuel Ward his heirs & assigns shall and will warrant and forever defend from & against him the said John Whitehead his heirs & assigns & also from and against the just & lawfull claim of all and every other person or persons whatsoever, who may now or at any time hereafter lay any juut and lawfull claim to the same or any part or parcel thereof. In witness whereof the said John Whitehead hath sat his hand & affixed his seal the day & date above written. John Whitehead Signed sealed & delivered in the presence of us Brinkley Glisson David Cannon January Term 1788.
