(Transcribed by Joan S Dunn) Deed Book 1 A Page 250, 251, & 252 John Whitehead To John Winders Deed for 500 acres lands This indenture made the twenty first day of March in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and eighty six, between John Whitehead of the State of North Carolina & County of Duplin of the one part, and John Winders of the same place of the other part. Witnesseth that the said John Whitehead for and in consideration of the sum of eighty pounds current money to him in hand well and truly paid by the said John Winders the receipt whereof he doth hereby acknowledge, and himself therewith to be fully satisfied contented and paid, and therefore doth release acquit, and discharge the said John Winders his heirs executors and administrators by these presents he the said John Whitehead hath granted bargained sold aliend and confirmed, and by these presents doth grant bargain sell alein convey and confirm unto the said John Winders one certain tract or parcel of land, situate lying & being in the County of Duplin and State of No. Carolina aforesaid and bounded as follows. Begining at a pine at or night the head of Stall's Marsh runing West 200 pole to a pine, thence No. 160 pole to a pine, thence Et. 200 pole to a pine, and thence So. 160 pole to the first station, and containing in the whole two hundred acres of land, being the contents of a paten granted to Joseph Grimes bearing date the 19th day of April 1763 and since by the said Joseph Grimes conveyed be a deed of sale to the said John Whitehead, reference being had may more fully appear etc. and also one other tract or parcel of land lying and being in the County aforesaid, between Goshen swamp and the No. East on Wolfscrape branch. Begining at a Hickory on Weston's line on the So. side of said branch, and runs Wt. 254 pole to a pine by the Wolf Pit, thence So. 127 pole to a black jack near a drain of Hall's marsh, thence Et. 254 pole to a pine in the edge of Panther Pocosin, thence to the begining, containing two hundred acres of land, being the contents of a paten granted to the said John Whitehead, bearing date the 29th day of October 1782, reference being thereunto had may more fully appear etc., and also one other tract or parcel of land lying & being in the County aforesaid on the No. Side of Goshen Swamp and on the drain of Hal's marsh joining James Grimes's line and his own. Begining at a red oad Grimes's line on the halfway branch, and runs with his line east 40 pole to his own corner, thence with his line No. 80 poles to a line his corner, thence with his other line Et. 140 poles to a pine, thence No. 72 pole to the begining, containing one hundred acres, it being the contents of a paten granted to the said John Whitehead bearing date the 29th day of October 1782, reference being had may more fully appear etc. and all houses buildings orchards ways water water courses profits commodities heriditaments & appurtenances whatsoever to the said premises hereby granted or any part thereof belonging or on any wise appertaining and the reversion & reversions remainder and remainders rents issues and profits thereof, and also all the estate right title interest use trust property claim & demand whatsoever, to him the said John Whitehead of in and to the said premises, and all deeds oordinces and writings touching or in any wise concerning the same. To have and to hold the said three different tracts of land hereby granted & conveyed and all and singular other the premises hereby bargained & sold and every part and parcel thereof with their & every of their appurtenances unto the said John Winders his heirs & assigns forever, to the only proper use and behoofe of him the said John Winders & of his heirs & assigns forever, & the said John Whitehead for himself his heirs executors & administrators doth covenant promise and grant to and with the said John Winders his heirs and assigns by these, that the said John Whitehead now at the time of sealing and delivering these presents is seized of a good sure perfect and indefeazable estate of inheritance in fee simple of and in the premises hereby bargained & sold, and that he has good power and lawfull authority to grant & convey the same to the said John Winders in manner & form aforesaid and that the said premises now are & so forever hereafter shall remain and be free and clear of and from all former gifts grants bargains sales dower right & title of dower judgements executions titles troubles charges & incumbrances whatsoever or any other person or persons whatsoever, the quit rents or taxes hereafter to grow due & pay able to the State for and in respect of the premises only excepted & fore prised and that the said John Whitehead & his heirs all and singular the premises hereby bargained and sold with the appurtenances unto the said John Winders and his heirs and all and every person or persons whatsoever, shall warrent and forever defend by these presents. In withess whereof the said John Whitehead hath hereunto set his hand & seal the day and year first above written.
