(Transcribed by Joan S Dunn) Deed Book E Page 29, & 30 John Whitehead To Benjamin Herring Deed 300 acres This Indenture made this thirtieth of May one thousand seven hundred & eighty nine. Between John Whitehead of the State of North Carolina in the County of Duplin of the one part and Benjamin Herring of the County and State aforesaid of the other part. Wtinesseth that, the said John Whitehead for and in consideration of the Valuable sum of sixty pounds specie Money to him in hand paid before the Ensealing and Delivery of these presents the Receipt whereof he doth hereby acknowledge himself to be fully satisfied and contented of everypart and parcel Thereof Doth aquit and Discharge the said Benjamin Herring his heirs Exrs. adms. and assigns given granted bargained sold & convey and confrimed by these presents for himself his heirs Exrs. admrs. assigns fully grant bargain sell and convey and forever confirm unto the said Benjamin Herring his heirs or assigns a certain tract or parcel of Land containg three hundred acres be the same more or less situate lying and being in the above said County Between the North East and Goshen Swamp begining at a small pine on the East side of Ground Nut Branch on the side of the Marsh on William Sullavents line and Runs along the same and past his corner So 78 Et 320 pole to a white oak by a branch thence No 15 Et 180 pole to a pine by the head of Groundnut Branch thence down the Branch No 75 W. 200 pole to a stake in the Run Thereof Thence with the Run as it meanders to the begining. To have and to hold the above Bargain and Demised premises with all Enjoyments Belonging to the said Land an premises and the said John Whitehead for myself my Heirs Executors Amrs. or assigns Do Covenant promise and agree to and with the said Benja. Herring his heris Execurs. amrs. and assigns to warrend and forever Defend the said Granted and Bargained premises unto him the said Benja. Herring his heirs and assigns forever the lawfull claim or demand of any person or persons whatsoever claimin any right title or Interest therein in witness whereof I the said John Whitehead hereunto set my hand and fixt my seal the day and date above written. Signed sealed and John Whitehead Delivered in the presence of us State of No. Carolina Duplin County July Term 1790 Then was the within Deed acknowledged in open Court and ordered to be registered Test W. Dickson C.C.
