John Ward To Thomas Hill
Bill of Sale for Negro Unity
State of North Carolina Duplin County
Know all men by these presents that I John Ward of the State & County
above for & in consideration of the sum of seven hundred dollars to me in hand paid
receipt of which I do hereby acknowledge do bargain & sell & have bargained & sold
unto Thomas Hill a certain negroe girl by the name of unity about twenty years old &
her child noel them & there increase to him his heirs or assigns forever which said
negroe unity & noel I warrant & defend aginst the just claim of all persons whatsoever
I bind my self my heirs & assigns to defend the above title in witness whereof I set my
hand & seal the 15 day of January 1839

State of North Carolina Duplin County Court of Pleas and Quarter Session January Term 1839
The execution of the with in bill of sail is duly proved in open Court by the oath of John Swinson the
