(Transcribed by Joan S Dunn) Deed Book 1 A Page 67, 68, & 69 John Sullivan To Stepehn Gufford Deed for 200 acres lands This indenture made this 22nd day of November in the year of our Lord God one thousand seven hundred & eighty two, between John Sulivant of the one part and Stephen Gufford of the other part witnesseth, that the said John Silivand of the State of North Carolina and County of Duplin for the considerable sum of one hundred pounds to him in hand paid by Stephen Gufford, the receipr whereof I do hareby acknowledge and myself satisfied and contented of every part and parcel there of do acquit and discharge the said Stephen Gufford his heirs executors administrators forever by these presents and for divers good causes thereunto moving have given granted bargained sold alienated conveyed and confirmed and by these presents do freely fully and absoultely give grant bargain sell convey and confirm unto him the said Stephen Gufford his heirs and assigns forever, one tract or parcel of land sittuate lying & being in the County aforesaid containibng two hundred acres lying & being in the County of Duplin and in the fork of the North East and Goshen and on the head of a branch called Neds Branch containing by extimation two hundred acres of land, Begining at a pine on the north side of Neds Branch, running No. 30 Et. 180 pole to a pine, thence So. 60 Et. 180 pole to a pine, thence So. Wt. 180 to a sweet gum in Neds Branch, and thence up the branch with the run to the begining. To have and to hold the said granted and bargained premises with all the appertenances privileges and commodities to the same belonging or in any wise appertaining to him the said Stephen Gufford his heirs & assigns forever, to his and their only proper use benefit & behoof forever and I the said John Sulivant for me my heirs executors administrators do covenant and agree to and with the said Stephen Gufford his heirs and assigns, that before the ensealing I am the true and lawful owner the above bargained premises and lawfully possessed of the same, and in myself good rite & full power to confine said bargained premises that the said Stephen Gufford his heirs and assigns shall and may from time to time and at all times hereafter by force and virtue of these presence lawfully hold use occupy possess and enjoy the said premises free and clear of all former gifts grants mortgages jointers dowers or any incumbrances whatsoever, and I the said John Sulivant for myself my heirs & assigns engage the demised premises to him the said Stephen Gufford his heirs and assigns, against the lawful claim and demand of any person whatsoever, to warrant secure and defend. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and fixed my seal twenty second day of November 1782.
