John Marchant To Adonijah Garrison Deed 20 September 1786

(Transcribed by Joan S Dunn) Deed Book 1 A Page 325, 326, & 327 John Marchant To Adonijah Garrison Deed for 100 acres lands This indenture made the twentieth day of September in the eleventh year of American Independance & in the year of our Lord Christ one thousand seven hundred & eighty six. Between John Marchant of the State of North Carolina & County of Duplin of the one part & Adonijah Garrison of the same place of the other part. Witnesseth that the said John Marchant for divers good causes & consideration him thereunto moving, but more especially for the valuable consideration of the sum of sixty pounds currenct money of the State aforesaid to him in hand well & truly paid by Adonijah Garrison aforesaid, before the ensealing & delivery of these presents given granted bargained sold assigned & set over to the said Adonijah Garrison his heira & assigns forever the following tract or percel of land, situate lying & being in Duplin County aforesaid on the north side of Island Creek, including said Merchants improvements, being the land that the said John Merchant, purchases from John Cook of Island Creek, the deed bearing date Jan'y Anno Domm. 1782. Begining at a Cypress in the edge of the swamp of Island Creek, at the mouth of the Island Branch above said Marchant's plantation, thence runing up siad branch No. 20 Et. ninety six poles to a maple, thence up the branch by various courses, which on a straight line is No. 77 Et. 56 poles to a pine at the head of said branch, thence by a line of marked trees, as agreed by said Marchant & Cook No. 15 Et. 148 poles to a pine, thence east by said agreed line 42 poles to a pine in the edge of Loves pocoson thence the course continued 18 poles to a stake on Cook's patent line, So. 8 Et. by Loves Pocoson 226 poles to a red oak Cook's corner by the swamp side, thence up the swamp straight line to the begining, containing in the whole one hundred acres be the same more or less. To have and to hold the aforesaid land and premises with all the appertenances to the same belonging or in any wise appertaining of every nature or kind whatever, free from all incumbrance whatever given granted of done by him the said John Marchant or any other person or persons by from or under him or them or any of them and the said Adonijah Garison & his heirs the aforesaid land and premises shall & may have hold use occupie enjoy & possess as his own free and lawfull inheritance free from all incumbraces whatever, the taxes as they become due only excepted & fore prized & the John Marchant the aforesaid land and premises with all the appurtenances to the same belonging or in any wise appertaining shall & will warrant & forever defend to him the said Adonijah Garrison his heirs & assigns as also from & against the just & lawfull clame of all and every other person whatever who may hereafter lay any lawfull claim to the same. In witness whereof the said John Marchant hath hereunto set his hand & seal the date above written. John Marchant Signed Sealed & delivered in the presence of us.
