(Transcribed by Joan S Dunn) Deed Book 1 A Page 359, & 360 John Johnston To Hannah Johnston Deed for 250 acres lands This indenture made the twentieth day of December in the eighth year of American Independence & in the year of our Lord Christ one thousand seven hundred & eighty three. Between John Johnston of the State of North Carolina & County of Duplin of the one part & Hannah Johnston of the same place of the other part. Witnesseth that the said John Johnston for divers good causes & consideration him thereunto moving, but more especially for the valluabel consideration of the sum of one hundred pounds specie to him in hand paid or secured to be paid by Hannah Johnston before the ensealing & delivery hereof the rect. whereof is hereby acknowledged hath by these presents given granted bargained sold assignes & set over to the said Hannah Johnston her heris & assigns forever, one ceratin tract of land sittuate lying & being in Duplin County aforesaid between Goshen & the Grove on both sides of Dark Branch & the main road including the two and twentieth mile poste. Begining at a pine South edge the main road on Bosthick Gillespie's line, formerly Anthony Miller's line, bearing the 13th corner of a tract of 340 acres patend by Benj. Johnston, the twenty sixth day of September Anno Domini 1760, thence along Gillespie's line No. 5 Et. 106 pole to a pine, thence Wt. 100 pole to a pine, thence No. 70 Wt. 86 pole to a pine & black jack, thence crossing Dark Branch & the road So. 22 Wt. 302 pole to a pine, thence along the patten line No. 65 Et. 300 pole to the first station, containing by estimation in the whole two hundred and fifty acres be the same more or less. To have and to hold the aforesaid land & premises with all the appurtenances of every nature or king whatsoever to her the said Hannah Johnston his heirs and assigns forever free from all & all manner of former gifts grants mortgages intails wills entents or troubles whatever suffered or done by him the said John Johnston & the said John Johnston the aforesaid land and premises with all the previledges & appurtenances to the same belonging or in any wise appertaining to her the said Hannah Johnston her heirs & assigns shall & will warrant & forever defend from & against him the said John Johnston his heirs executors administrators & assigns, as also from & against the just & lawfull clame & demand of all and every other person or persons whatever who may hereafter lay any lawfull clame to the same. In witness whereof the said John Johnston hath hereunto set his hand & fixed his seal the date above written. John Johnston Signed sealed & delivered in the presence of Joseph Dickson Archabald Carr State of No. Carolina Duplin County Jany. Term 1787.
