(Transcribed by Joan S Dunn) Deed Book 1 A Page529, & 530 John Johns To James James Deed for 165 acres lands This indenture made the tenth day of September in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and seventy six. Between John Johns planter, & his wife Isable of the County of New Hanover of the one part and James James planter of the County of Duplin of the other part. Witnesseth, that for and in consideration of the sum of sixty pounds proclamation money to the said John Johns & his wife Isable in hand paid by the said James James at and before the sealing and delivery of these presents (the receipt & payment whereof is hereby acknowledged) hath granted bargained sold alienated enfeoffed conveyed & confirmed and by these presents doth grant bargain sell alien enfeoffe convey and confirm unto the said James James his heirs and assigns forever, all that piece or parcel of land on the west side of the North Et. Branch of Cape Fear River, buted & bounded as followeth. Viz. Begining at a white oak about one hundred yards below Limestone forde, thence runing So. 85 Wt. 120 poles to a red oak by a Dismal pocoson, thence by the side and nearly in the pocoson No. 50 Wt. 220 poles to a pine, thence North 85 Et. 160 poles to the said North East branch of Cape Fear to a water oak by the bank, thence down by the bank making a course So. 45 Et. to the first station, which lands were granted to Jacob Hanchey by his Excellency Gabriel Johnston Esqr. Gov. &c. as by the grant and patent for the same bearing dat the 20th day of April 1745, & recorded in the proper office, as by the same reference being thereunto had doth and may more fully appear, & conveyed by Jacob Hanchey to Francis Brice bearing date Decr. 1746, & conveyed by Francis Brice to Prisilla Burton bearing date the 8th June 1758, & conveyed by deed by Pressilla Burton to John Johns bearing date the 18th day of June 1763, containing by estimation one hundred and sixty five acres be the same more or less, with the appurtenances situated lying & being in the County of New Hanover but now in the County Duplin by Act of Assembly in the Province of North Carolina, with all its members, and appurtenances whatsoever, and the reversion & reverisions, remainder & remainders of all and singular the land tenements hereditaments & premises thereby granted or intended to be granted, & of every part and parcel thereof, & all rents issues services and profits to them or any of them or any part or parcel of them incident belonging or appertaining, and also all and every the estate and estates rights titles claims interest demands whatsoever of him the said James James of or into the said lands tenements hereditaments & premises whatsoever, hereby granted or mentioned to be granted or any of them or any part or parcel thereof. To have and to hold the said lands tenements hereditaments & premises hereby granted wit their appurtenances to the said James James his heirs and assigns forever, & the said John Johns & his wife Isable for themselves their heirs executors & administrators doth hereby promise covenant and agree that the siad John Johns and his wife Isable his heirs executors & administrators shall and will at all times warrant and forever defend the said premises to the said James James (the quit rents was excepted) his heirs & assigns against all lawfull claims or demands whatsoever whereby the above mentioned premises might or may be effeoffed or incumbrand contrary to the true intent & meaning of these presents. In witness whereof the said John Johns & his wife Isable hath hereunto set their hands & seals the day and year first above written. John Johns Isable Johns Signed sealed & delivered in the presence of us David Bloodworth Thos. Armstrong State of No. Carolina Duplin County January Term 1788.
