John Johns To James James
Deed for 54 acres lands
This indenture made the tenth day of September in the year of our Lord one thousand
seven hundred & seventy six. Between John Johns planter & his wife Isable of the County of
New Hanover of the one part & James James planter of the County of Duplin of the other part,
witnesseth that for and in consideration of the sum of sixty pounds proclamation money to
the said John Johns & his wife Isable in hand paid by the said James James at & before the
sealing & delivery of these presents (the receipt & payment whereof is hereby acknowledged)
hath granted bargained sold aliend enfeoffed conveyed & confirmed & by these presents doth
grant bargain sell alien enfeoffe convey & confirm unto the said James James his heirs &
assigns forever all that piece or parcel of land on the west side of the No. East Branch of
Cape Fear River, oposite the mouth of Limestone Creek, between my own land that I bought of
the Widdow Burton & the river. Begining at a hickory on the River Bank below the old landing
& runs down the meanders ofr the River. To wit. No. 32 poles Et. 36 poles So. 20 Wt. 38
poles So. 75 Et. 40 poles So. 25 Et. 24 poles Et. 58 poles So. 35 Et. 24 poles So. 70 Et.
30 poles So. 30 Et. 46 poles So. 45 WT. 18 poles So. 15 Wt. 22 poles, to the lower corner
of the widow Burton's line formerly Jacob Hanchey's line, thence along said line to the
begining, containing by estimation fifty four acres be the same more or less which lands
were granted to the said John Johns by his Excellency Arthur Dobbs Governor &c. as by the
grant & patent for the same bearing date the sixteenth day of November in the year 1764 &
recorded in the proper office, as by the same reference being thereunto had doth & may more
fully appear, with the appurtenances, situate lying & being in the County of Duplin with
all its members and appurtenances whatsoever & the reversion & reversions remainder &
remainders of all and singular the lands tenements heriditaments & premises thereby granted
or intended to be granted, & of every part & parcel thereof, & all rents issues services &
profits to them or any of them or any part or parcel of them or any of them incident
belonging or appertaining, & also all & every the estate & estates rights titles claims
interest & demands whatsoever of him the said James James of or into the said lands
tenements hereditaments & premises whatsoever hereby granted or intended to be granted or
any of them or any part or parcel thereof. To have and to hold the said lands tenements
hereditaments & premises hereby granted with their appurtenances to the said James James
his heirs & assigns, to the only proper use and behoof of the said James James his heirs
& assigns frorever, & the said John Johns & his wifeIsable, themselves heirs executors &
administrators doth hereby promise covenant & agree that he the said John Johns his heirs
executors & administrators shall and will forever defend the said premises to the said
James James the quit rents ever excepted his heirs & assigns against all lawfull claims
or demands whatsoever, whereby the above mentioned premises might or may be affected or
incumbered contrary to the true intent & meaning of these presents. In witness whereof
the said John Johns & his wife Isable hath hereunto set their hands & seals the day & year
first above written.

Agreeable to an order of the Worshipful Court of Duplin County I examined Mrs. Isable
Johns respecting the signing the within deed, who answered she did it of her own free
will & accore Jany. 22nd 1778. John James

Then was the within deed proved by the oath or Thomas Armstrong in open Court & ordered
to be registered.
