(Transcribed by Joan S Dunn) Deed Book 1 A Page 98 & 99 John Halso To James Ellis Deed for 100 acres lands This indenture made the twenty second day of Feby. one thousand seven hundred and eighty two between John Halso for and in consideration of the sum of twenty five pounds specie to me in hand paid or secured to be paid befor the ensealing and delivery hereof unto James Ellis of the County & province aforesaid, have bargained sold and eonveyed enfeofed and assigned set over unto James Ellis, ceratin tract or parcel of land, containing one hundred acres lying and being in the County of Duplin in our State of No. Carolina on the No. side of Cypress Creek, and both sides of the great branch. Begining at a pine at the side of Cypress Creek Swamp opposite Parker Pearce's land, the same being patend by John Halso runing No. 30 Et. 140 poles to a pine saplin, thence No. 60 Wt. crossing the great branch 110 pole to a pine saplin, thence So. 30 Wt. 150 pole to Cypress Creek swamp, and thence up the swamp to the begining. To have and to hold the said land with all its improvements & priviledges to the same belonging or otherwise appertaining to the said James Ellis his heirs and assigns forever, & that the said John Halso at the ensealing and delivery of these presents hath a good right and lawful authority to bargain & sell the same in mentions as above said unto James Ellis his heirs and assigns forever the said John Halso for himself his heirs executors administrators doth promise and warrant that the said land & premises is free and clear from the lawfull claims or challings dowries or demands of any person whatsoever, and the same will warrant & secure and defend unto James Ellis his heirs and assigns forever. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and fixed my seal the date above written.
