John Haines To Samuel Slocumb
Deed for 2 pieces lands
This indenture made this fourth day of December in the twelvth year of the American
Independence Anno Domini 1787, Between John Hains of the County of Sampson in the State of
North Carolina of the one part planter, & Samuel Slocumb of the same County & State aforesaid
of the other part witnesseth that the said John Hains for and inconsideration of the sum of
one hundred and fifty pounds specie to him in hand paid by the said Samuel Slocumb at &
before the sealing & delivedry of these presents, the receipt whereof is hereby fully
acknowledged by the said John Hains, he the said John Hains hath bargained & sold aliened
enfeoffed released & confirmed & by these presents doth grant bargain & sell alien enfeoffe
release and confirm unto the said Samuel Slocumb his heirs & assigns, two certain tracts or
parcels of land situate lying & being in the County of Duplin, one of the said tracts or
parcels being the same whereon the said John Hains lately lived, containing by estimation
one hundred and fifty acres, lying on the north side of Goshen Swamp & on the east side of
Granthams Branch. Begining at a Lightwood stake on the west side of the main road, thence
along Thomas Gray's line to Granthams Branch, thence down the said branch, to Nathaniel
Kennard's line, then with Kinnard's line to the main road, thence up the road to the first
station, which said tract or parcel of land was conveyed by deed in writing, bearing date
the nineteenth day of April 1777, from Robert Warren to the said John Hains, the other of
the said tracts or parcel of land containing one hundred acres lying & being on the heads
Granthams Branch & on both sides of the main road. Begining at a pine Micajah Hill's corner
& Jonathan Taylor's line & runs along said Taylor's line east 66 pole to a pine by the main
road Charles Woolf's corner, thence along Wolf's line No. 10 Wt. 220 poles to a pine, thence
No. 75 Wt. to and along Peregrine Johnston's line 78 poles to a stake on his line by an old
field, thence along Micajah Hill's line South 10 Et. 240 poles to the begining, which said
last mentioned tract or parcel of land was granted by letters patent bearing date the fifteenth
day of December in the third year of the American Independance Anno Domini 1778. To have and
to hold the said two tracts or parcels of land & premises with all the appertenances thereunto
belonging to the said Samuel Slocumb his heirs & assigns, to the only proper use & behoof of
him the said Samuel Slocumb his heirs & assigns forever, & the said John Hains for himself his
heirs & assigns doth covenant grant & agree to & with the said Samuel Slocumb his heirs & assigns
the said two tracts of land & premises forever to warrant & defend to the said Samuel Solcumb
his heirs & assigns against the right title claim & demand of all and all manner of persons
whatsoever. In witness whereof the said John Hains hath hereunto set his hand & affixed his
seal the day & year first above written.

Then was the within deed proved in open Court by the oath of Thos. Gray & ordered
