(Transcribed by Joan S Dunn) Deed Book 1 A Page 241, & 242 John Dever To Jacob Kornegay Deed for 100 acres lands This indenture made this fourth day of January in the year of our Lord Christ one thousand seven hundred and eighty six, between John Dever of the province of North Carolina in the County of Duplin planter of the one part and Jacob Kornegay of the other part. Witnesseth, that the said John Dever for the valuable sum of ten pounds to him in hand well and truly paid before the sealing & delivery of these presents, the receipt whereof he doth hereby acknowledge himself to be fully satisfied and paid and he doth acquit & dischatge the said Jacob Kornegay his heirs exec. and administrators and assigns, hath granted bargained sold conveyed and confirmed and for himself his heirs executors and administrators and assigns, doth fully freely and absolutely grant bargain sell convey and forever confirm unto the said Jacob Kornegay his heirs or assigns one certain tract or parcel of land, containing one hundred acres of land lying and being on the head of deep gully branch, bounded as follows. Begining at a water oak in Deep gully branch Edward Duncon's inner corner, and runs up the various courses of the branch to a watering hold of said branch, and along a line of marked trees to a pine Edward Duncon's other corner, thence No. 50 Wt. to a white oak on the edge of the pocosin, thence No. 30 Et. 34 poles to a white oak Jacob Kornegay's own corner, thence along his line No. 56 Et. 130 poles to a pine by a small branch, thence to the begining, water oak. To have and to hold the said one hundred acres of land and premises with all the profits & benefits thereunto belonging, in as full and ample a manner as the said John Dever by his said deed or paten might or could enjoy the same, & the said Jacob Kornegay his heirs or assigns yielding and paying such rents or taxes as shall become due for the same from time to time on which condition the said Jacob Kornegay to have hold use occupie possess and enjoy the said one hundred acres of land and all & singular the premises above mentioned and to the only use & behoofe of him the said Jacob Kornegay his heirs or assigns forever, and the said John Dever doth covenant and agree for himself his heirs execs. administrators and assigns to and with the said Jacob Kornegay his heirs and assigns, that he the said John Dever doth here warrent and forever defend the said lands and premises above mentioned from the lawfull clame or demand of any person or persons whatsoever. In witness whereof the said John Dever hath hereunto set his hand and seal the day and year first above written. John Dever Signed Sealed & delivered in presence of us Edmond Duncan Stephen Jones N. B. And the said John Dever doth warrent and defend all the land within the above mentioned bounders and no more be thane an hundred acres more or less State of North Carolina Duplin County January Court 1786.
