John Cook To William Knight
Deed for 50 acres lands
This indenture made the third day of September in the ninth year of American
Independance and in the year of our Lord Christ, one thousand seven hundred and eighty
five, between John Cook of the State of No. Carolina and County of Sampson of the one
part, and William Knight of the County of Duplin of the other part. Witnesseth that
the said John Cook for divers good causes, but more especially for the valluable
consideration of the sum of six pounds specie to him in hand well and truly paid or
secured to be paid by William Knight aforesaid, before the ensealing and delivery of
these presents, the receipt whereof is hereby acknolwedged, hath by these presents given
granted bargained sold assigned and set over to the said William Knight, aforesaid one
certain part or parcel of land situate & lying in Duplin County aforesaid between Stewarts
Bridge and the head of clear run. Begining at a pine in the road, thence a Wt. course
to a pine at the Branch, thence the branch to be a line to hte head of it, and corner at
a fore and after tree, thence an Et. course to the corner of his new entry on the road,
thence along the road to the begining, being part of the said Cook's one hundred and fifty
acre entry, containing in the whole fifty acres the same more or less. To have and to
hold the aforesaid land and all its premises with all its appurtenances to the same belonging,
or in any wise appertaining to him the said William Knight, his heirs and assigns forever,
free from all former gifts grants mortgages intails wills executions entents or troubles
whatever committed or done by him the said John Cook or any other person or persons whatever
by from or under him the said William Knight, the aforesaid land and premises with all the
appertenances to the same belonging or in any wise appertaining, shall & may have hold use
occupie enjoy and possess as his own free and lawfull inheritance, and the said John Cook
the aforesaid land & premises shall and will warrent, and forever defend to him the said
William Knight, his heirs and assigns forever, from and against, him the said John Cook his
heirs and assigns, as also from & against the just and lawfull claim of all and every other
person or persons whatever who may hereafter lay any lawfull claim to the same. In witness,
whereof the said John Cook hath hereunto set his hand and seal the date above written.
