(Transcribed by Joan S Dunn) Deed Book E Page 429, 430, & 431 John & Joseph Cox To William Wilkinson Deed 230 acres This Indenture made this fifty day of January in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and ninety two And in the Sixteenth year of American Independence Between John Cox of the County of Duplin and State of North Carolina and Joseph Cox of the County of Rockingham and State aforesaid both of the one part and William of the same state and County of Duplin of the other part. Witnesseth That the said John and Joseph Cox for and in Consideration of the sum of one hundred pounds good and Lawfull Money of the State aforesaid to them the said John and Joseph Cox well and Truly paid by William Wilkinson aforesaid. The receipt of which is hereby acknowledged Hath by these presents given granted Sold assigned and set over and doth by these presents give grant bargain sell assign and set over to the said William Wilkinson aforesaid all that piece or parcel of Land Situate lying and being in the County of Duplin and state aforesaid on the west side of the No. East River between the lines of Brock Rutherford and McIntire. Begining at a Maple Gum and water oak in the Edge of a bent of the river swamp. Thence No. 36 Wt. 70 poles to a pine in the swamp edge. Thence No. 86 Wt. 100 pole to a pine by the swamp. Thence So. 30 Wt. 120 poles to a stake. Thence So. 54 Et. 250 pole to a stake in the pocoson. Thence No. 30 Et. 120 poles to the Beginning Containing two hundred and thirty acres be the same more or less it being the contents of a Patent Granted to John Molten Bearing Date the Tenth day of November 1784 and Sold be the said John Molten to Joseph Junior and the said Joseph Cox Junior and his attorney John Cox to the said William Wilkinson. Now this Indenture Witnesseth. That the said John and Joseph Cox Their Heirs and assigns shall and will forever warrant Secure and Defend the above mentioned Land and premises with the appurtainances thereon belonging or in any wise appurtaining to him the said William Wilkinson his heirs and assign forever. In Witness whereof the said John and Joseph Cox hath hereunto set their hands and Seals The day and date first above written. Signed Sealed and Delivered In the presence of Joseph Cox James Dickson John Cox State of No. Carolina Duplin County January Term 1792 Then was the within Deed proved in open Court by the oath of James Dickson and ordered to be Registered.
