(Transcribed by Joan S Dunn) Deed Book E Page 357, 358, & 359 John Humphreys To Lamuel Williams Deed 160 acres This Indenture made this first day of September in the Fifteenth year of American Independence and in the year of our Lord 1791. Between John Humphrey of the State of North Carolina and County of Duplin of the one part and Lamuel Williams of the same State and County of Onslow of the other part. Witnesseth, that I the said John Humphrey for and in Consideration of the sum of one hundred pounds specie to him in hand paid by the said Lamuel Williams the Receipt of which is hereby acknowledged and himself to be therewith fully Contented and paid hath Bargained sold alienated Enfeofted confirmed assigned and set over unto the said Lamuel Williams his heirs ad assigns forever all that Tract or parcel of Land situate lying and being in Duplin County aforesaid on the west side of Limestone Creek Including his own improvements or part thereof—Beginning at a poplar Mathew Edwards Corner thence as his line and past his corner So. 42. Wt. 125 poles to a Stake thence So. 48 Et. 160 poles to a pine by the pocoson thence No. 42. Et. 180 poles to a live oake at the Run of Limestone Swamp then down the various Courses of the swamp to the Beginning containing by Estimation one hundred and sixty acres of Land as by Paten bearing date the 10th day of November 1784. May more fully appear. To have and ato hold the said Bargained Land and premises with their appurtainances unto the said Lamuel Williams his heirs and assigns forever in as full and ample a manner as he the said John Humphrey might or could hold by his paten and that free and Clear freely and clearly acquitted of all and all former or other Gifts grants bargain sails leases wills mortgages Intails Executions Extnets troubles or Incumbrances of any kind whatsoever had made done or Committed by him the said John Humphrey his heirs or assigns Except such Taxes as the State may herafter be Imposed on the same and the said John Humphrey doth hereby further Covenant and Engage to warrant and Defend the said Lamuel Williams his heirs and assigns in the Quiet and peaceable possession of the said Land and premises from and against the Lawfull or Just Claim of him the said John Humphrey or any person or persons Claiming by from or under him or any other person whatsoever. In witness whereof the said John Humphrey hath hereunto set his hand and Seal the day and year first above written. Signed Sealed and Delivered John Humphrey In the presence of us John Jones Thomas Williams State of No. Carolina October Term 1791 Duplin County Then was the within Deed proved in open Court by the oath of Thomas Williams and ordered to be Registered.
