James Sullivan to Henry Sullivan 323 acres
State of North Carolina Duplin County
This indenture made this 23rd day of January in the year of our Lord, 1845 between James
Sullivan of the county and state aforesaid and his son Henry Sullivan of the same county
and sate of the other part witnesses that for in and consideration of the natural love and
affection that I have and bear unto my son Henry Sullivan and for the further consideration
of the sum of ten dollars to the said James Sullivan in hand paid at or before the sealing
and delivery of these presents first reserving unto myself the privilege of a certain tract of
land which I will hereafter describe for and during the term of my natural life the receipt
whereof is acknowledged thereof to be therewith fully satisfied contented paid have given,
granted, sold by these presents do give, grant, bargain, sell, align, convey unto Henry
Sullivan the following tract or parcel of land situated, lying and being in the county and
state aforesaid and on the east side of the road leading from Kennansville to White Hall
beginning at a Black Gum by the side of the road and runs S.E. 121 poles to a pine and
Light Wood Tree down near the road then along the road S.SE 55 poles to a stake at
Brock’s path then along said path nearly S.to E. 103 poles to a black jack stump in said
path then N. 253 E.47 poles to a stake then E.79 poles along Sodd’s Branch to a pine
tree then N. 43 W. 128 Poles to a Black Jack then N.50 E.156 Poles to a Poplar on the
run of Sodd’s Branch then N. 70 W.220 poles to a stake by the road then along the road
to the beginning containing 323 acres to have and to hold the afore bargained land and
premises free and clear of all manner of encumbrance or encumbrances what so ever
with what profits, privileges, demands or advantages what so ever to him the said Henry
Sullivan His heirs, Exec. Admin. Or assigns forever only as before reserved and the
James Sullivan doth for his part bind himself and his heirs, exec., Admin., to warrant,
secure and forever defend the before bargained land and premises free and clear of from
the just and lawful claim or demands of all and every other person claming any right or
interest of the same or any part or parcel there of. In witness where of the said James
Sullivan have hereunto set his hand and seal the day first written.
