This Indenture made the 26 Mar 1861 between Jeremiah Pearsall of
Duplin County, NC of the one part and Mack Williams of Wayne County,
NC of the second part. Whereas by petition filed in the Court of
Equity for Duplin County in the name of George Williams, Tabitha
Vaughan, Sarah Grady, Mack Williams of Wayne County the heirs at
Law of James Williams, deceased, of Duplin County, Margaret Kornegay
Of the state of Alabama, Samuel Butts and Samuel J. Williams or
Representatives of the same, for the sale of real estate of George
B. Williams, deceased, late of Duplin County and whereas upon the
Hearing of the said petition a decree was passed upon the Clerk and
Master of said County directing the sale of the same according to
Law and whereas the said Clerk directing the sale of the same
According to law and whereas the said Clerk and Master did advertise
The sale of the said lands as directed by the Court and agreeable to
Law, he did then expose the same for sale at the Courthouse door at
Kenansville, NC on 30 Nov 1859 at public auction when Mack Williams
Became the purchaser of the following tracts of land in Duplin County,
Viz: beginning at a pine on the south side of the Great Branch and
Runs south 2 east 359 poles to a dead pine, then east 62 poles to
A pine then north 53 1/2 poles to a black jack then east 130 poles
To a pine then north 306 poles to a pine and lightwood stump and then
To the beginning, containing by estimation 397 3/4 acres, more or
Less, which was conveyed by Ira D. Hines to said George Williams by
Deed dated 8 Sep 1855. Also, one certain other tract of land lying
Being on the water's of Hall's Marsh, beginning at a Bay on the Great
Branch and runs north to the run of Panther Branch, then up the Panther
Branch as it meanders to Winder's line then east 130 poles to a stake
Then south 72 east 100 poles to a pine then south 13 east to a stake
In the Great Branch, then down the run of the Great Branch to the
Beginning and containing 225 acres which included 100 acres conveyed
To William R. Pate by Stephen B. Winders as Administrator of James
Winders by deed dated 22 Jan 1856, which is excepted, being the tract
Of land conveyed by Stephen B. Winders, administrator aforesaid to the
Said entestate by deed dated 22 Jan 1856, and for both of the said
Tracts first mentioned and $200 for the tract last mentioned and were
Last and highest bids made. Now for and in consideration of the said
Two sums amounting to $2,000, to me in hand paid or satisfactorly secured,
I have this day granted, bargained, conveyed, etc. Unto the said Mack
Williams the said 2 tracts of land above described, and I, Jeremiah
Pearsall so far as empowered by virtue of my office of Clerk and Master
In Equity do warrant the title of the said lands to the said Mack
Williams free from all incumbrances from or against the claims of any
Person or persons claiming by or under the said George B. Williams,
Deceased, his heirs or assigns.
