Jeremiah Pearsall & Wife To John Johnston
Deed
This Indenture made this twenty seventh day January in the year of our Lord one thousand seven
hundred and Eighty seven. Between Jeremiah Pearsall of the County of Duplin in the state of North
Carolina and Hannah Pearsall his wife of the one part and John Johnston of the same County and State
planter of the other part. Witnesseth that the said Jeremiah Pearsall and the said Hannah his wife
Testified by her being a party thereto and her sealing and Delivering hereof, for and in consideration
of the sum fifty pounds specie to him in hand paid by the said John Johnston before the sealing and
Delivering of these presents the receipt whereof is by them hereby acknowledged Have and each of them
hath given granted bargained and sold and by these presents Do and each of them Doth for himself and
herself give grant bargain and sell unto the said John Johnston and to his heirs and assigns forever.
All that Tract or parcel of Land situate and being in the State and County aforesaid on both sides of
the swamp knon by the name of dark swamp, and which heretofore was conveyed and given by the said John
Johnston unto his sister the said Hannah, but since for consideration aforesaid hath been agreed to be
secured to the said John Johnston by deed from the said Jeremiah Pearsall and Hannah his wife containing
two hundred and fifty acres be the same more or less and which said Land is joining to the Lines of the
said John Johnston, John Auston and Barthick Gillespie and is bounded as follows, that is to say, thence
along Gillespies line No. 5 Et. 106 poles to a pine thence Wt. 100 pole to a pine thence No. 70 Wt. 86
pole to a pine and Blackjack thence crossing dark Branch and the Road So. 22 Wt. 304 poles to a pine
thence along the Paten line No. 65 Et. 300 poles to the first station by estimation in the whole which
said Two hundred and fifty acres of Land so Patened by Benjamin Johnston Father of the said John Johnston
and conveyed by Deed executed by the said John Johnston to his said sister Hannah now the wife of the
above named Jeremiah Pearsall and intended by them to be hereby conveyed to the said John Johnston and
his heirs for the consideration aforesaid by the Patent aforesaid of the said Land and premises Reference
being thereunto had may more fully and at large appear. To have and to hold the said hereby bargained
and sold Land and premises and every part and parcel thereof with the appurtainances unto the said John
Johnston his heirs and assigns forever free and clear and freely and clearly and absolutely exonerated
and Discharged from any claim interest or Demand of them the said Jeremiah Pearsall or Hannah his wife
or any other person or persons claiming or to claim any right Title or Interest in or to the said herein
before bargained and sold land and premises, or any part or parcel thereof by from or under the said
Jeremiah Pearsall or Hannah his wife, it being the True intent and meaning of these presents and of the
parties thereto that the said John Johnston shall from the Execution of his Deed remain continue and be
solely intiled to all the Right Title and Interest of the said Jeremiah Pearsall and Hannah his wife of
in or to the said before hereby conveyed Land and premises and every part and parcel thereof with the
appurtainances and they the said Jeremiah Pearsall and Hannah his wife do further covenant and premise
for themselves and their heirs to make any other and further Deeds and conveyances of the said Land and
premises hereby intended to be conveyed to the said John Johnston and his heirs as by his Council
Learned in the Law shall be Lawfull and Reasonably advised Devised Required. In witness whereof the
said Jeremiah Pearsall and Hannah Pearsall his wife have hereunto subscribed their names and affixed
their seals the day and year first above written.
