James Rogers To Francis Asburry & The Methodist Society Deed 22 August 1790

(Transcribed by Joan S Dunn) Deed Book E Page 372, 373, & 374 James Rogers To Francis Asburry & The Methodist Society Deed 1 Acre State Of No. Carolina This Indenture made this 22nd day of August in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and ninety between James Rogers of the County of Duplin and state of North Carolina of the one part and Frances Asburry Bishop of the Mithodist Episcopal Church in America of the other. Witnesseth that the said James Rogers for and in Consideration of the sum of five shillings current money to him in hand paid for and on account of the said Francis Asburry and Diverse other good cause and weighty consideration me there unto moving the receipt whereof I the said James Rogers doth hereby acknowledge and am fully satisfied content and paid all and before the Insealing hereof hath Bargained and sold and by these presents doth absolutely bargain and sell, give grant alien Enfeoffe convey and confirm unto the said Francis Asburry and his Successers Bishops of the Church aforesaid a Certain parcel of Land situate lying and being in the County of Duplin and State of No. Carolina on Cars Branch near the Plantation of Job Rogers and whereon the Church now stands, containing by Estimation one acre of Land, to be lade of in as Convenient a form as may be to Include the said Church to hold to the said Francis Asburry and his successers in Trust for the use and benefit of the said Methodist Church forever, for the purpose of Erecting thereon a Church Chapple House for the worship of Almighty God, and the said James Rogers doth further Covenant and Engage for him his heirs and successers to and with the said Bishop and his successers that the said Church and Society of Methodists shall from time to time and at all times forever hereafter have hold possess occupy and enjoy the aforementioned acre of Land with all the Houses Churches Chapp;es or other Edifices that may be Erected thereon, fully freely absolutely and Quietly without any molestation or disturbences whatsoever had made done Committed or Suffered or to be had made done committed or suffered by me the said James Rogers or by my heirg Executors or administrators or by any other person whatsoever with full and free Egness and regress to and from the said premises and the said James Rogers doth further covenant promise & Engage to and with the said Frances Asburry that the said James Rogers will not at any time hereafter stop Inclose or by any manner of means whatsoever abstruct Road path passage of publick way leading to the premises of suffer the same to be done in his name and by or through his means of procurement but that all such ways shall be forever life & suffered to open and free for all persons whatsoever to go to once from the said Church Chapple or meeting House. In witness whereof the said James Rogers hath hereunto set his hand and seal the day and year above written. Signed and Sealed In presence of James Rogers James Heath Stephen Vann State of No. Carolina October Term 1791 Duplin County Then was the within Deed proved in open Court by the oath of James Heath and ordered to be Registered.
