James Rawlins To John Blanton
Deed for lands
State of No. Carolina, Duplin County. This indenture made this third day of October one
thousand seven hundred & eighty three and in the eighth year or our Independance between
James Rawlins of the aforesaid State and County planter of the one part and John Blanton
planter of the other part Witnesseth that for and in consideration of the sum of twenty
pounds proclamation money to him in hand paid by the said John Blanton the receipt whereof
the said James Rawlins doth hereby acknowledge and therwith to be fully satisfied and paid
hath given granted bargained sold transfered and set over and do by these presents fully
freely and absolutely give grant bargain sell transfer and convey a certain tract piece or
parcel of land unto him the aforesaid John Blanton his heirs and assigns sittuate lying and
being in the State and County aforesaid on the No. side of the Docktors creek a branch of
Rockfish Creek. Beginin at a cipres on the edge of the Doctors Creek, thence No. 90 poles
to a pine, thence Wt. 180 poles to a Red oak, thence So. 90 poles to a water oak in the swamp
thence to the begining. To have and to hold the aforesaid bargained premises with the buildings
improvements ways woods waters hereditaments & appertenances thereunto belonging or in any
wise appertaining, unto him the said John Blanton his heirs and assigns in fee simple, & that
free from him the said James Rawlins his heirs executors administrators or assigns claiming or
to claim any rightly title or interests from or under him and from the right & lawful title of
any persons whatsoever, and that said John Blanton his heirs and assigns shall from henceforth
peacibly possess occupy and enjoy the aforesaid bargained premises with the appertenances, free
and clear of all incumbrances of any kind whatwoever, except the rents that may become due on
the same, and the said James Rawlins is heirs executors and administrators do further covenant
and promise & agee to and with the said John Blanton his heirs and assigns that at the
reasonable request cost and charges of him the said John Blanton his heirs and assigns or their
attorney learned in the law or either of them that he the said James Rawlins his heirs executors
administrators and assigns shall & will at any time hereafter, make do or execute any other deed
or conveyance to more amply secure the aforesaid premises. In witness whereof I have hereunto
set my hand & seal the day and year first above written.

Then was the within deed proved in open Court by the oath of Elijah Bowen and ordered
to be registered.
