(Transcribed by Joan S Dunn) Deed Book 1 A Page 114 & 115 James Pearsall To Justices of Duplin Deed for 4 acres - Court House Lot This indenture made this twenty first day of January in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred & eighty five and in the ninth year of American Independence between James Pearsall of the State of North Carolina & County of Duplin of the one part, and the Charman of the Courts of said County resident in the County aforesaid and his successions in office of the other part witnesseth, that the said James Pearsall for and in consideration of the sum of five pounds current money to him in hand well and truly paid before the ensealing & delivery of these presents by the Chairman aforesaid, the receipt whereof he doth hereby acknowledge, and himself therewith to be fully satisfied contented & paid & of every part & parcel thereof, hath given granted bargained sold alined enfeoffed conveyed confirmed assigned & set over unto the said Chairman as aforesaid for the purpose of building thereon a Court House Poison & Stocks for the use of the County aforesaid, and by these presents doth fully freely & absolutely give grant bargain sell alien enfeoffe convey confirm assign & set over unto the said Chairman as aforesaid for the use aforesaid forever, all that tract or parcel of land situate and lying in the State & County aforesaid, on James Pearsall's plantation, on the Grove. Begining at a sweet gum on the edge of said Pearsall's spring branch fifty feet below the spring, and runs thence So. 75 Et. 25 1/2 poles to a staek; thence So. 15 Wt. 25 1/2 poles to a stake; thence No. 75 Wt. 25 1/2 poles to a stake, thence No. 15 Et. to the first station, claiming four acres of land. To have & to hold the said bargained land 7 premises with the appertenances thereunto belonging, to him the said Chairman and his successors in Office forever, in as full and ample manner as the said James Pearsall by his deed could or might enjoy, without the least less hindrance molestation or interuption of him the said James Pearsall his heirs or assigns & that free and clear & freely & clearly acquited from all & all manner of former or other gifts grants bargain sales wills mortgages intails jointures judgements dowers execution extents and troubles of any kind whatsoever, hand made done or comited by him the said James Pearsall his heirs or assigns , and the said James Pearsall doth hereby further covenant & engage to warrant & defend the said Chairman as aforesaid for the use aforesaid in the peaceable and quiet possession of the said bargained land and premises above said from and against the just & lawfull claims & demands of any person or persons whatsoever claiming ot to claim by from or under him the said James Pearsall his heirs or assigns or any other person or person whatsoever. In witness whereof I the said James Pearsall hath hereunto set his hand and fixed his seal the day and year first above written. James Pearsall Signed sealed & delivered in presence of us W.
