To Jesse Darden Deed for 287 acres lands Know all men by these presents that I James Pearsall Esquire Sheriff of the County of Duplin in the State of North Carolina have this day sold unto Jesse Darden of the County of Sampson & State aforesaid for and in consideration of the sum of twenty six pounds three shillings to me in hand paid, the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, a certain piece or parcel of land situate lying and being in Duplin County of both sides of Buck Hall swamp, between the line of John Adkinson, Robert Hicks, Handcock Hatcher, James Thompson, John Valentine Taylor & Kedar Bryan. Begining at a white oak a corner tree of Kedar Bryan's land So. 32 Wt. 62 poles to a stake his corner, thence his other line So. 2 Wt. 37 to a stake in the edge of Buck Hall Adkinson's corner, thence crossing the swamp with his line SO. 87 Wt. 104 poles to a pine his corner, thence Robert Hicks'es line No. 30 Wt. 90 poles to a stake, thence No. 60 Wt. 64 poles to a white oak, thence No. 35 Wt. 68 poles to a gum and pine in a drain his corner, thence No. 31 Wt. 20 poles to a pine, thence No. 20 Wt. 64 poles to a popular Hatcher's corner in a sprind Branch, thence down the run thereof as it meanders to the mouth on a straight line, So. 72 Et. 124 pole to a water oak on the run of Buck Hall, thence on or near James Thompson's line No. 27 Et. 80 pole to a pine his corner, thence Taylor's line So. 45 Et. 40 poles to a pine, thence So. 26 Et. 62 poles to a pine, thence So. 55 Et. 40 poles to a red oak, thence No. 25 Et. 100 poles to a pine, thence So. 60 Et. 62 poles to a pine, thence So. 5 WSt. 54 poles to a stake, thence So. 23 Et. to the begining, containing by estimatin two hundred & eighty seven acres aforesaid, be the same more or less, late the property of Henry Eustus McCulloch by me levied upon and sold at public vendue pursuant to the States writ of Fieri Facias to me directed from the Court of Pleas and Quarter Sessions held for the County of Duplin aforesaid, as of Sessions issued on the judgment of James Lockhart he recovered against the said Henry Eustace McCulloch, in the said Court as aforesaid in the tenth year of American Independence for a debt of...... for damages & cost in the prosecution of the complaint of the said James Lockhart against him the said Henry Eustus McCulloch, the said execution having been duly levied & publick notice given agreeable to law, the said two hundred and eighty seven acres of land as aforesaid were by me sold in virtue of my office at publick sale on the 15 day of August 1785, at which sail Jesse Darden aforesaid became the highest bidder. Therefore this deed witnesseth that I James Pearsall Sheriff of Duplin County aforesaid have granted bargained & conveyed unto him the said Jesse Darden the aforesaid two hundred & eighty seven acres of land with all and singular the appurtenances thereunto belonging or in any wise appertaining. To have and to hold the premises aforesaid unto him the said Jesse Darden his heirs & assigns forever. In witness whereof I the said James Pearsall Sheriff of the County of Duplin aforesaid at Duplin Court House hath hereunto set his hand and seal this fifteenth day of August in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred & eighty five.
